I'd say the OEM Pirelli's are the worst tires you could have on your car right now. I've just never been a fan of Pirelli (other than their snow tires, but now I've decided the Dunlop M3's are better).

From my research thus far, the Michelin PS2's in:

235/40-18 Front
295/30-18 Back

Should really improve handling. The car should understeer less and should grip more and ride more comfortably.

Yea, I've heard good things about the Michelin PS2's. I searched them but couldn't find them in factory size. I was somewhat concerned to switch sizes and mess with the performance but I might do it if it's actually gonna be better.

Thumbs up Michelin PS2

Just put them on 2 weeks ago. Quieter than the P-Zeros and I like the handling. Seems like great grip. Haven't had them in the rain yet.

Yep, go PS2. N spec in front, XL rating in the rear.

Why's that?

Is it because the XL rating makes the tire heavier and is bad for the ride?

I ask because I have a set of Pirelli 240 SnowSports for my M3 and they are XL rated and the ride on those tires is utter garbage. I'm curious as to wether it's because of the tire design, or because of the XL rating.

KJM3, XL is for a stiffer sidewall. It's usually done to support heavier cars. Yes it makes the ride different and it can affect handling vs. a tire that is non-XL.
You'll see them a lot on AWD and FWD drive cars if there's more than normal weight over a particular part of the car.

dpellerc, are you sure the
295/30ZR18XL N2 (996TT, GT3 Rear)
is N2? It doesn't show up that way where I look.
