Low rpm whine from Power steering reservoir

I just got home from driving, I noticed that my car made some whinning noise at low speed, and gone when clutch was pressed. I was very worried that it may be tranny related, good thing this forum exists, did a search and seems like the problem was the power steering resrvoir.

Anyone replaced this at their own expanse (no warranty), and where could I find the best price for the part? Is it labour intensive?

with the noise, will i need this assembly:

Power steering reservoir TSB 4897 (1/05) PN 996.314.920.34

Thanks,
Kevin

Clutch accumulator needs to be replaced. Pretty inexpensive and common.

No its not the clutch accumulator (sorry ari). It is the power steering res. and you have the correct PN...you will also need some pentosin fluid. Sunset probably has the best price for the part.

Thanks, do you know how much the part approx would costs? How many hours to do the job? Can I purchase pentosin fluid from local automotive stores? Or need to buy from Porsche?

I'm having this exact same whining sound and it's driving me nuts. Only happens at low rpm's. I have the Evoms GT2 slave delete. Will this cause any problems at the dealer when I go have the power steering reservoir changed?

not sure what you're asking re: "problems" at the dealer? they'll certainly see the slave delete? but to eliminate the whine you have to replace the pS reservoir in its entirety since the valve thats whining and outlined in the porsche tsb 4897 is built into it. I've never heard of anyone just replacing the valve itself, which whines at hi temp and will immediately stop once the clutch is engaged.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just didn't know if the slave delete would somehow affect them fixing the whining problem. I'm not very mechanically inclined. =)

It shouldn't be a problem. Replacing reservoir should end the noise.

Be aware that as part of the GT2 slave conversion, the coupler that drives the portion of the pump responsible for providing the clutch assist is removed. Your dealer would need to perform that modification to your new pump as well. You could also switch over to the Tiptronic/GT2 pump which doesn't come with the clutch assist hydraulics, but without the two in front of me I can't say for certain if there are any other changes that need to be made at that same time--I don't believe so, however.

Shoot me an email at sstone@evoms.com if you have any questions.

Sam

What is this coupler? Is this the line that comes off the pump and leads to the OEM clutch system or some driven part? I don't recall having heard about a coupler before and am curious. I'm really thinking I'll be doing this conversion first chance I get so am trying to become familiar with all that's required - thank you!

The coupler in question is internal to the power steering pump, and it connects the drive shaft from the P/S portion of the pump to the hydraulic assist portion.
