Keyless Remote

My remote seems to be working sporatically. I have replaced two batteries and don't have another key.

Sometimes it works if I get within a few inches of the receiver, sometimes a few feet away from the car and sometimes not at all.

The red light on the keyfob always comes on, but the light in the dash doesn't blink when it's not working.

Any ideas?

Mine does this when the car sits for over 5 days. It goes into a security mode and must be opened with the key.

Mine stopped working, but I didn't try holding it close to the receiver.

I manually opened the door with the key, then all OK. It wasn't after 5 days, it was after 5 minutes, but it worked.

Take the Key Fob apart and see if there is any fuzz or dirt on the internal switch contacts. Spray it out with some canned-air.

I've noticed when I park in certain areas the remote doesn't work. I always put that down to local RF Interference.
There was a mod the dealers did with the earlier 996 series to increase the range (rerouting the antenna wire up the door pillar I think). I think It was a service note (or whatever Porsche call them).

I sometimes find with RF remotes, you hold them up to your neck the range increases (using the body as an antenna).

Thanks guys. The TSB is probably the culpriy, but why is it getting worse over time even with new batteries in the remote?

BTW I know the 5 day shutoff thing. This definitely is not related. Just poor or no reception using the keyfob.

yep, the red light on the fob flashes normally
i used to get closer to the center of the windshield before and it would work
now it never or rarely works and i have to open it with the key
if i don't turn on the ignition within 7 seconds the alarm goes off or if i open the passenger door before the 7 seconds it goes off

TSB 9662, although I don't see the TT listed as an applicable car (996 C,996 C2, GT3). Not sure what is different about the TT wiring harness?

Found this about the Boxster. Seems that the antenna is too short and extending the wire by 130mm it is the fix: http://boxster.wikia.com/wiki/Procedure

Rennlist has all TSBs listed, but I don't remember my login.

Can someone clip and paste it please?
