It be nice if I could do that without getting in the car to open the other door for my special lady friend.

Yep... It's normal... read your owners manual, it explains. If you don't want it to sleep press the lock button twice (the horn will sound) and it will not go to sleep.

The key replacement worked well, all is good now.

The 5 day thing is actually in the owners manual. I picked up the car used so it had not been used for a few weeks and the key was dead (although the light would blink). I tried to resynchronize the key as per manual and it didn't work. That's when the dealer mentioned I was SOL and that this is not covered under the warranty.

On the PPI (done by a reputable dealership) they didn't catch this. I looked at the inspection (there must be a 100 things they check) there is no "does key unlock remotely) but there is "light on key lights up when pressed"!! Too bad it's not a very good way of checking functionality.

Welcome to Porsche ownership!!

As always this site helps me through an issue.
I had the same problem. Hadn't driven the car in about 6 days and keyless woud not open. Opened the door with the key and started the car and all was well after that.
thanks again to all the 6speed posters.
