Porsche's Short Shift Kit Installation Instructions, dated 5/03, describes only the short shifter in it's parts list. There isn't any mention of a new base. It also instructs the mechanic to remove the plastic pilot bushings from the shift tower, which wouldn't be required if the shifter came with a new base.

want to be real picky? the problem here is 5/03... that's more than a year ago. yes, the new one comes with the new base!
ok, excuse my poor phone... the camera sux, but here is the stock one from OKHJOON190's 04 TT cab. if the shifter base is here at Lucent that mean he is driving the car without the SSK base unit... or, other possiblity is the OEM SSK does come with the new base!

First off, I'm not trying to be picky...I'm only interested in facts. If I have one set of information and someone else has another set of information then I want to know why there are two sets, and I want to know if both are valid or if only one is valid.
When someone says the Porsche Short Shifter "feels" different, I try to find out why. If there is an engineering answer, I want to know what it is. If there is another explination, I want to know what that is.
So what is it, specifically, in the new base and/or in the short shifter itself, that makes the Porsche Short Shifter different from the B&M shifter? I'd love to know.
Once people know what the answers are, they can make informed decisions...

You need to check out renntech as this has not been covered once, or twice, but a few times.

Dock,
i'll compare them as long as i get more in next week. sorry if i offended anyone in anyway, but i have to be picky because i'm the one who sell them. therefore it is my responsibility to suggest my customer which one is the best for their car based on my experience.
the main reason why i like the idea going with OEM is because the 996 tranny is famous for having low gear pop out problem. usually when it happens dealer will replace it without question asked. if the aftermarket part is seen during the warranty work they always tend to blame everything on it. having say that, the ''feel'' is an extra. i didn't expect the OEM would feel better but it is. to better describe the difference, B&M feels sloppy compare to the Solid OEM feel.

It's packaging plain and simple.. More than a few Porsche dealers have confirmed it. They used the B&M for years and now offer the OEM.. All say it is the same shifter
