Nav CD/DVD/ipod options for 01 996TT

I have searched quite a bit on here for aftermarket upgrades available for my 01 turbo, but everything seems to be for newer years apparently due to the ancient wiring and "infrastructure" of my 01's system.

Anyone turn me on to a good option for at least an ipod adaptable kit that possibly also has nav/cd/dvd or something?

thanks

Aftermarket... Ditch the stock head unit. I run a top of the line Kenwood Excelon system with DVD/NAV/Navtraffic, Ipod, etc.., etc.., etc...

It wasn't cheap but there is no comparison!

I agree with looking into Kenwood. I have their double DIN nav unit, and it's way better than the OEM unit. It has nav, dvd, cd, ipod, sirius, xm, bluetooth, back-up camera, sd card slot, aux video in, etc...

The nav is by garmin, so it works very well.

TriplBlack996TT is infamous around these parts
Have an 02 turbo and installed the kenwood 6.95" screen and it's simply awesome - touch screen, garmin nav, backup camera, siruis, bluetooth, dvd, cd, full video ipod integration - couldn't be happier

When you guys had the Kenwood installed - did you just have your AC controls moved down below it?

By any chance would any of you have before and after pics?

Yes, I had to move my A/C controls to the bottom. All you need is the trim piece. It's a piece of cake.

Here are before and after pictures. The before pic has a stupid xm radio that I bought, but it was a total piece of junk.

I also had to buy another cubby hole since I didn't want to lose the storage space. The upper and lower cubby holes are different parts, so you can't just take the lower one and move it up. You could leave the CD storage compartment if you want.

Let me know if you need part numbers for the trim piece or cubby hole...I can find them if necessary.

Thanks for all the replies. Did most of you just add the new head units/screens and leave speakers/factory amps/etc stock?

Nice pics of the before and after. Thanks for that!

Get the Kenwood or Pioneer Double Din Units. Move your AC control to the bottom and keep the cubby above it.

Gutted the whole thing and started from scratch!!! Zapco's custom speakers, some focals, custom crossover networks, 3 8's, the whole nine. Do it once and do it right is my motto! I went nuts but no regrets after it's all done...

If you are just looking for an Ipod interface, you can disconnect your CD changer and connect your ipod to the cd input cables, and run the wire through the firewall into the cabin.

It works just fine for me!

Would love to get some part numbers. Is this from Porsche?

And yes - it looks great with the cubby above the AC controls.

This is great!

I have seen some Factory Nav stuff - and it's not all that impressive.

This should be a nice step up!

You can buy it here: http://www.pcars.com/porsche_parts/s.../p_142803.html

Here is a link to the upper cubby hole: http://eagleday.com/interiortrim3.html
