Shootout Results!?

Simply a prediction. Based on the variety of testing to be done, the results will not be conclusive as to which car is better, Overall. I cannot offer another comparitive variety of tests either. I would suppose, as a pro driver, these cars at three different tracks with the same driver would offer a more conclusive answer. As others have mentioned, some are two and others are four wheel drive. Bragging rights and unfair conditions will prevail without any scientific results. The traction control issue is something I've missed; on/off/stock/modified?. One more item that seems always cloudy is the durability of the (stock?) engines over a long period of time. 50-90 HP improvements should not seriously alter the rebuild cycles of these particular engine variations of the GT3, however, a supposed 200+ increase MUST cycle the rebuild phase, several exponents higher. Simple reasoning.

So what exactly is your point?

According to my mechanics at the local Porsche dealership, my car was built to be pretty reliable and bulletproof. There are a multitude of factors to determine the reliability of an engine. Including how you maintain the motor, if you let it cool down and warm up sufficiently, and NOT LEAST OF ALL, how much boost you run.

My car runs 1.2 bar on full boost. Not too bad, considering a stock GT2 runs 1.0bar. I also have twin fuel pumps to deliver proper amounts of fuel.

While most Turbos historically have had rebuilds (top end only) at around 100K miles, mine will probably need one at 60-80K miles. Do you know how long it will probably take me to get there? Several years of fun!

And even then, it's just an excuse to start strengthening the internals of the motor anyway.

By the way, quarter mile times and best lap time around Thunder Hill isn't bad to compare performance, is it? As for the drivability, it is subjective, but then again, isn't every automotive test?

I just hope my car performs well in the semi-scientific, empirical test of TIMES and TRAP SPEEDS.

Hamman7,

If that's the case what is your goal for 1/4?

Hmmm...seems you made my point Thanks. Enjoy your "shootout". And...your absolutely right,,,,ALL 996 turbo engines running at 1.2 bar boost at tracks such as Watkins Glen or Road America will last 60K. I look forward to "straightening out" the "innards". later Dude. havefuntakechancesdriveporsche..be

I hope to be in the 10's. But obviously that won't be easy, although it should be doable with the current power to weight ratio.

aracerx,

These cars are exotic Porsche 996 based "street" cars. They are a broad sample of what can be accomplished by tuners given certain budgets. Will there be a best car? No, not for everyone. The different tuners have taken different approaches both modification and budget wise. It will allow people to see what they like and what they don't like. What may fit them and what doesn't.

I find your comment about three different tracks to be rather amusing. Again, these cars are exotic street cars. Overweight by race car standards. What three tracks would you like to choose? Are they going to have tight turns, long sweeping turns, long straights or short ones. Depending on the power and how the suspensions are set up or capable of being set up will make all the difference in the world. Your statement to me reminds me of someone who is simply looking for an arguement as it truely can be argued from a multiple of angles.

AWD (with or without PSM) versus 2wd, hey choose your own medicine. The results will be fairly obvious. Or will they?

Regarding longevity in relation to power? I do not believe it takes a rocket engineer to conclude that as you ad power (after a certain point) longevity will suffer. You're point being? Why would you try to compare a street 700 hp motor to a track 700 hp motor longevity wise? Is it a 700 hp 24 hour event motor? Is it a few laps, 10, 20, 50 etc. lap race? Or is it Hamann driving his car 90% of the time around town and getting it on 10% or less of the time and seeing 50 to 60 thousand miles before freshening it up.

It looks like a no win discuession to me.

Oh oh... I get on my car all the time... does that mean I have a rebuild coming in 10K miles

Hamann,

I guess all for use will have to stayed "tuned" (no pun intended)

Hamann,

With me being able to pull 11.6 @124 with just a chip in a tip (heavier) I know your car can do 10s Plus you can launch harder too and pull 1.6s for 60 foots. You only need a 130mph trap speed to crack it for sure...

CJ:
my initial comment was not meant to create an excuse for the shootout cars which place poorly. I have no affiliation with participants.
Two points to mention: As a graduate Mechanical Engineer and two years of jet propulsion studies, rocket science is a discussion I enjoy . Second (serious) point is given any three tracks-long, medium and short...I believe one could conclusively test these machines and come out of it with a real, bonified winner, with respect to performance. Weight of street cars would have nothing to do with the parameters of the testing as each run would be limited to several laps.
My comments were to just to have fun with and you see that I'm not looking for controversy....Personally, I'm not into the 1/4 part of it....these cars weren't ever meant for that. fundrivechancePorsche-Mark
