I thought that Porsche wheels were designed to be hubcentric. Does it mean that if the wheels are not hubcentric that the car is being supported by the wheels studs alone. Surely that can not be a good thing from a performance/strength standpoint.

I am guessing the wheels are after market. But basiaclly the wheels are moving around on the studs. Not a good situation at all. If they are Porsche wheels then the problem is something else.

definitely NOT hubcentric if your wheel guy says he thinks you should use a 1 mm shim. obviously you have a gap in the hub. that is a BIG issue, i would return the wheels, forget a shim. highly doubt it's the suspension.

Xico,

Did you have to use hub centering rings to get your wheels to fit right??

hey guys,

custom wheels shouldn't need any type of centering "help". if there is a shim, i'd have the wheel(s) remade

Dude: This deninately is a problem. Forget the shim and get the stupid wheel replaced! I'm suprised you can even keep it on the road with a loose wheel.

The wheels are balanced, I watched them do this myself. The wheel is not 100% snug on the hub... this was illustrated to me by the alignment tech. He said that they make shims that might help this but I have no clue where to get them.

As far as bump stops go, what symptoms are produced when these come into play.

Yep, it's most likely you need some hubcentric rings. I just put some on my wheels and all my problems went away. They are cheap to. Discount Tire sells them on ebay (metal ones, not the cheap plastic) and they will find the ones you need when you give them your wheel and tire info.

The problem is w/ aftermarket wheels is they make them in one size and make them for the biggest hub the wheels will fit on. So let's say VW has a big hub, they'll make it to fit VW's and then supply rings for say a toyota.

But if the wheels were custom they should fit w/ no issue.

I have the same wheelshake problem as Greyghost. My wheels are HRE 540R in 19"s. I thought that it might be a wheelbalance problem so I'm taking them to another place to get them balanced correctly. I certainly hope it has nothing to do with the wheels not fitting correctly on the hubs.

Ruiner, yeah I agree. The place that balanced them probably didn't do a good job.

Is it possible that you bent the inner lip? Perhaps when you have them re-balanced (or whatever you choose to do) you can watch them on the high-speed balance machine.

If the wheel is bent or in anyway deformed it will yield vibration.

Good luck with your dilema (s)
