Nooooowb request for help!

Greetings-
New to the board, and am the cusp of buying a pre-owned 996tt. Trading in my tastefully modified 07’ Audi RS4 (Stasis/Ohlins & Milltek). In the past have owned 76’ 3.0 Carrera (euro spec), 77’ 911S, 80’ 911 SC Targa, 83’ 911 SC coupe, 89 964 C4, 96 993, 99 996C4 & 03’ 996 C4S. My conundrum is what to buy. Here’s the data: Newer is better, but not necessary. 01 w/ less than 40k miles ok. Local is better also, I live in the SF bay area (Los Gatos). My biggest dilema is stock vs modified. If I buy stock, it will be modified over time as funds allow. Here’s what I am looking at: 1) 01’ 36k miles, 49K, good color combo, polar silver over metro blue/full CF pkg in San Diego. 2) 03’ X50 19K miles, 63k, great color arctic silver over burganndy/black. 3) 02’ well-done modified by Sharkwerks (Evo short shift, K24 turbos, GIAC stage 4, Evo diverter valve, Evolution motorsports Milltek exhaust, Evolution motorsports GT2 headers, PSS9’s, Evo wastegate, new Conti’s on OEM twists. 19k miles, $69K. “Easy care” 60k/3yr WNTY. Car is local CA car w/ known history, and is located in SF area. Not at all hot on color combo, black over tan/full wood pkg. Looking for your valued opinions. I have posted same over at Rennlist. Thank you for your time!

In my opinion, wait for what absolutely fits your desires - don't compromise (much).

If you plan on modifying the car - get one that's already done or close to the way you want it (they're available in the usual places AND on this board). You'll save money (if that is important to you) if you purchase someone else's investment.

As far as SharkWerks is concerned - you can't go wrong with work done by Alex and James. But be warned, because Alex and James performed modifications to the car, it does not mean it wasn't trashed by the owner.

Make certain that before you purchase the car, get a thorough PPI.

Only when you're satisfied with the condition, modifications, colors, etc - only then spend the cash.

You'll be happier in the long run.

Rich

There are lots of turbos for sale. Wait for the one you want.

Personally, the wood package on the '02 car would kill it for me. The '03 X-50 sounds like a very good price.

depends on what you are planning to do with the car and your taste
I am a track and hp guy so if the Sharky car can be vouched for with those mods it is a great deal.

03 would be my next choice.

as for your second post in this thread, probably get more help if you kept that kinda stuff to yourself.

Wait and look for what you relaly want. Make an offer and I bet they will take it. The economy sucks so it really is a buyer's market.
many add ons get less then .50 cents on a dollar... Give someone what a dealer would offer... then you know your not overpaying...

+1 on the 03 x50.

To bring it to the same level of the sharkwerks car will take:
Exhaust, flash, wastegate kit, DVs, suspension, SSK.. maybe $10k plus install. You'd have a new car, pay $6k less than the modded 02.

AND you'd be able to spec the mods YOU want. Close to a no brainer.

A

PS I'd never own black!
