hkdude is infamous around these parts
5w-30 is this ok

We just lost our Porsche dealership so I took it to an independent shop to get the oil changed. I specifically told them Mobile 1 over the phone. It came back with Kendal Gt1 5w-30. I'm going to get it resolved but until then is 5w-30 ok for my 996 TT?

On top of that they ruined one of my Techart Daytonas. Talk about an expensive oil change.

I would say it depends on your climate. If its as hot as it is here in S. Texas I would not run less than 40W or better yet 50W on the high end.

this weight is not on the Porsche factory recommended list...0W40, 5W40, 5W50 are...that being said I have no data to suggest anything would be wrong.

I agree nothing less than 40, I'm running 20/50 at the moment (summer plus heavy track time) will go back to 0/40 for winter

I am using 5w-40 now. I plan to use this or 0w-40 only. 5w-50 would be great if we could get it in the USA. I have read somewhere that the 0w-40 and 5w-40 delvac were actually better in the heat....but I don't know where I read that nor does it make sense.

Based on the Porsche approval list.

Good luck.
