Fitting K24/18g Turbos

The time has come, I've booked the ramp tomorrow for fitting my complete turbo kit which consists of the following.
  • Ported Headers
  • K24/18g Turbos
  • Milltek System
  • Vivid Racing Intercooler Hoses
  • Vivid Racing Larger Intercoolers
  • 5bar FPR
Also I have bought all new nuts, bolts, washers, heat shields, sealing rings, gaskets etc etc.

I'm looking to get the complete job done within 10hours, I have excellent mechanical skills (Been in the trade 18years, but haven't much worked on the Porsche brand yet) Also have all the tools and also air-tools needed.

Job needs to be done in the day so then the ramp is free for the next working day. So I'm sure 10hours with complete the job??

5bar could be fit on the hard standing after so this is going to be the last job. Will be running Softronic Software also opted for not using the GReddy at the moment as I only ever run on pump gas over here in the UK @ 97ron.

I have a GReddy that can be fitted at a later date and also Scott can tweak the map to suit if I decide the fit it.

I've read somewhere about the header bolts snapping so this is my only concern.

I think you can do all the lift work in 10 hours (not including the clutch). Soak all the fastners with Liquid Wrench (WD-40, or whatever popular UK solvent spray in a can happens to be). Soak them 24 hours before, then 12 hours, then 2 hours before you wrench and this will help prevent those rusty fastners from snapping. Good luck Martin! Let us know how it goes.

You'll might do it if that's 10 hours of lift time. If you include stuff like swapping IC's and the 5bar, it will be tough if you are solo. I wrote a dyi w/ 24/18's, greddy, 5bar, etc. It is on here somewhere and might give you a couple tips to save an hour or so.

Good luck with it. It is not difficult at all. The 5bar and greddy were trickiest for me, but mostly due to my inexperience working on the "square end" of a car.

15+ Hours isn't a option...

On having a read up and also having a quick look. It does look quite a simply job. Only thing that is of concern is if the header bolts snap and I then have to drill them out...

I'll try and take photo's as I go and put together another D.I.Y with also the time it took to do the job...

Well just finished the job.. apart from the 5bar FPR which will be fitted tomorrow..

Complete job took 6 1/2 Hours with a few delays due to messing with the new Intercoolers then finally going with the original ones due to the new one needing a little fine tuning..

On start up I was shocked at the sound of the Milltek.. Very-Loud but I'm sure we will get used to it.. Also we have a small leak on one of the Check-Valves (New one will be ordered tomorrow and installed along with new Pressure Feed Pipes)

All the exhaust header bolts came out easy, we had to cut the exhaust to turbo bolts (Due to being to rusted up and seized)

Quite a easy D.I.Y if you have mechanical skills..

So we have the 5Bar and also a pair of Check Valves to install then the softronic flash will be loaded into our ECU..

Yep wasn't really a bad job, also I know to order a few other parts as well for the next one I do.

We got all new Header Bolts, Turbo Lock Nuts, Seals, Gaskets etc etc.

But the Oil Feed Pipe to the Turbo has a Check Valve at the top that the pressure pipe bolts into, the pressure pipe bolt was rusted and seized, a little heat solved this but I'm having it back on the ramp this week coming for a pair of check valves and also a pair of oil feed pressure pipes. (If a job is worth doing and all that)

So Ant it will cost around £350 for all the new bolts, seals, gaskets, check valves, pipes, Turbo Heat sheilds etc etc.

Give us a bell as we have trade accounts with a number of companies and can source parts at a good price.

Look on our website for contact details (Also website is being totally updated and will offer performance parts in the next month or so)

Regards
Martin
