Boost Leak Fix - Group Buy!

There seems to be a lot of boost leaks lately. We should organize a group buy on better tubing. Who makes the best stuff and what is the retail price?

I will go farther than that. I will call out Todd and Stephan and say there have been way more than enough problems with hose leaks that at least an improved f hose and maybe the y hose should be made of a much stronger material with these boosted cars.

Any comments guys? How about resovling the problem for us .. and make another small profit. If you don't do it, I will.

Yes, currrently very pissed off. Ans while it may not be your direct fault, your now wet just the same.

I certainly hope you aren't angry with the company who increased the performance of your car.

Anytime you modify a vehicle, you run the risk of creating a "weak link". For example, when I added 37" tires to my Jeep, the increased load caused my U-joints to fail under load. When I upgraded the U-joints, the axle failed... when I upgraded the axle... nothing has failed yet, but I expect the ring and pinion to go next.

In your case, increased boost caused a hose to fail. In my case, I've been boosting to 1.3 for going on 6 months and haven't had a problem. When (if) I do have a problem, I will purchase upgraded hoses or purchase another set of factory hoses and modify them to increase strength.

Being pissed at a problem you precipitated by your need for additional horsepower is a waste of energy. Just fix the problem and don't be surprised when another crops up. Also... if you want to avoid this type of frustration, don't upgrade your vehicle... stay stock.

Both Todd and I are out of town, but I can tell you there is a "new" pipe. I will post some info when I return Monday for you guys. As far as how long will the hose last? I blow one about once a year. I drive my car far more than 90% of the owners so it hasn't been a huge issue. The new version won't pop. The old version almost always rips at the seam. That is the weakest spot in the hose. Also FWIW I never blew a hose while running the 600 kit. Only when I moved on.

We have a solution for this problem. I have been testing these hoses for over 6 months now on my TT. The complete kit consists of all 4 boost hoses (turbos to intercoolers and intercoolers to Y pipe) as well as the diverter valves "F" hose. We have been waiting to release this product until the hoses were produced. We will have the entire kit available for sale in about 2 weeks. This has been in the works for over a year now and is almost complete. This kit will SOLVE and boost leaks assoiated with the charge air plumbing. In addition, our hose ends that connect to the intercooler / Y pipe are machined out of billet aluminum and will not leak or blow off. There will be a formal product release next week. Sorry that this has taken so long to release. Take care

That sounds perfect. Will the engine have to be dropped to install? Hopefully not.

Thank you gentleman. Called out and soundly answered. Nice job. I thought you would have an answer.

Now, I need hoses now. Any chance of getting a set ASAP?

Joe, I normally agree with you but not on this one. The stock diverter valves stink and aren't up the tuned car task and EVO sells a much better diverter valve. They should also sell a much better hose system as the stock hose system isn't up to the task either. It is their job to identify such problems and correct them when their system exposes the weaknesses, and it looks like they have. See my point?

Mike, The installation takes about 2 hours. The rear bumper needs to be removed to install the hoses from the intercooler to the Y pipe.

Craig, I will have the final prices next week when we make our formal product release.

Tim
Tim, we have identified this problem over a year ago. Porsche also identified this problem in 2002. Porsche released upgraded hoses that were a little stronger for the X50 cars and discontinued the hoses that came on the 2001 996TT. The diverter valve F hose has been a problem but we have seen that some of the failures are installation error when replacing the diverter valves. When the diverter valves are replaced, the hose claps that attach the DV's to the F hose can tear into the F hose if they are over tightened. When the clamp tears into the hose it significantly weakens it and causes the hose to split.

Our new F hose is made from wrapped silicone instead of rubber like the OEM piece. It is over 10 times stronger and WILL NOT FAIL under any conditions.

I have a question for anyone interested in this kit. Do you guys have a color preference? We are presently making them in black and red. Any input?? Thanks, Todd

Does this mean I do not need the upgraded hoses if I have a 2002 x50?

Red.

Craig
The X50 intercooler hoses were better than the 01TT hoses but they still have problems blowing off on cars running more than 1.0 bar of boost. The diverter valve F hose has not been upgraded from Porsche in the 3 years of production.
