Mixing brake fluid OK ?
Mixing brake fluid OK ?
My tech recently changed my brakes to UMW GT3 "Big Yellows". When it came time to bleed the brakes, he told me he didn't have any SRF{my current fluid} and he would just top it off with ATE Gold. I asked him if the 2 brake fluids were compatible and he said yes, no problem. My question is, does anyone know more about the compatibility of these 2 brake fluids? Will combining them cause any problems?
The SRF has higher wet boiling point and to maintain that spec you should not mix . That said the fluids are compatible but you lose the advantage of the very expensive SRF.
Hope that helps

Elliot, thanks for the reply. As long as no harm will be done to my braking system, I'm not worried about a few degrees wet boiling temperature loss. Each fluid is good enough not to boil and that is my main concern.
Larry, I would not recommend it personally. This is one of the reasons I quit using SRF. I'd recommend when you swap it out, move over to GS610 or Motul RBF600. It's cheaper and as you improve in DEs you'll require brake bleeds much more frequently. I bleed mine before every weekend.

My tech just did the same thing .. he topped off the SRF with ATE. Did you experience any problems? I plan on getting the brakes flushed in a couple of days, wondering if it would result in any issues by then.
I agree with Mike. I have used all three and the GS610 is the best at least in these cars. To confirm Landjet you will have no issues. The fluid will always perform like it's weekest link though...the ATE. It's good but not like the others. Juat depends on how aggressive you will be. Also if you want optimum performance make sure and bleed/flush an extra bottle through the first time (if you want the highest temp fluid to be pure that is).
