Good luck and thanks for taking the time to clarify.

No need pull out the megafont young man.

Chris, you are correct that having a different inlet pipe might have avoided the problem, but you are wrong that oversized turbo inlets are related to the problem. Let me explain. The stock inlet pipe is the same whether going to a large Garrett intake or stock K16. The coupler hose differs, but that had no effect on your problem. Your pipe cracked and fell apart, presumably because the pipe was damaged, flawed from the factory, or the hose clamp was overtightened. The size of the turbo inlet or its rubber/silicone connector had nothing to do with the failure. Warning anyone with stock inlet pipes and larger turbo inlets (from AP or whomever) is a false warning. The part failure is unique (under the "**** happens" category), or else we would have seen it previously on other cars.

I dont believe the part was over tighten because it had lasted 4k hard miles on 18-20psi of boost. We pulled the reducer off with the intake pipe still together, it was not crushed or even bent in any. I do not think it will happen to everyone, but I do think its a problem people should look out for. I know turbo cars and I know how hard they suck under boost, We have a turbo mustang around here that sucks the metal fender in on 4 psi. So why would this not suck in a metal ring pressed in with little force. I pulled out the other ring on the other side today with very little force. It sucks it happend but at least we found the problem, and now time to put the fuel pump on and try to take the stock bottom end dyno record.

Matt, that was a good explanation. I can see how the ring could more easily fall into a large GT30 compressor inlet than into a small K16 or K24. Can you post pics comparing the damaged one to the good one?

Sending the turbos off today. They are going to both be replaced with a larger compressor I hope to be back on the road in a few weeks.

The exhaust wheels are perfect, and there was no metal shavings in the oil so far. I still need to pull the filter and replace it. I'm happy that we haven't found anything else major so far.

I am also going to be flareing my fittings and running braided lines to all the oil fittings so they are easier to remove.

Ironically, I after I removed my GT 28's some damage was found to one compressor wheel. I wonder what caused it?

Sean on your impellers were there some rough edges on them? Like on my "good" compressor there was some damage to the impeller, but not enough to really effect anything to much (I don't think at least).

I'm really interested to find what did that to mine. I don't think it effected performance to much, but I do not know for sure. We'll see how it does with the new compressors.
