Pump is 997 314 040 00, reservoir is 997 314 920 31.

Guys make sure the sound you have is the screaming high pitched PS sound. If it is an additional whine that corresponds to RPMs, it probably is the serpentine belt tensioner bearing.

thanks to this post I finally got motivated to do this job. it's makes a bit of mess when disconnecting the hard lines at the top of the res have plenty of rags at hand. other than the pento mess, it's an easy job. theres a single small 8 or 10 mm behind mounting bolt/nut behind the res that's kinda tricky to access.

thanks for the info!

I have a high pitch screech after GT2 slave mod (and after some leaks caused by less than perfect job from mechanic making air enter the system).

I initially thought it is the pump gears or bearings, caused by having air leaks - but it actually doesn't change pitch with the rpms so maybe I'm looking at the reservoir problem.

Is it somehow a problem/bad to drive with the reservoir high pitch whine - like prone to leak or something? Or just a nuisance?

Thx to you who can shed light over this.

The GT2 slave mod actually cured my reservoir whine. There should be no more flow through the valve that makes the whine.

Sounds good b/c that's what I want to achieve by plugging those lines for good. No pressure fluid through reservoir lid = no whine.

How do you tell if it is the reservoir you need or the pump? My dealer told me today that I needed a new pump.

Steering pump should normally be change due to external leak and the reservoir should be change if you got the early type of reservoir and suffer from this whistling noise cause by a faulty pressure control valve within the reservoir. TSB#4897. Two completely different problems....

When you change just the reservoir, how much fluid is required?
