Looking for a late model TT - What should I watch out for?

Hi:

I am looking for a late model, low mileage TT, bare bones car in terms of options. I have never looked at a pre-owned vehicle before, and I am wondering what to look for in terms of value, wear and tear, etc. Thanks.

Try to buy a 2002 or later model since there were a lot of changes from 2001 to 2002.

If you get a 2003+, the stereo is fibreoptic from the headunit to the changer and amp, so it's harder to do stereo upgrades.

Other than that, these cars are very reliable and don't really have any inherent problems.

You'll get a better response than mine, but from what I've heard, the 2001 had some transmission problems and have no cup holders or glove box. After '01, they are similar.

MY 2003 911 Turbo is still for sale from Rizza Porsche in Orland Park. I traded it in on a 2004 Turbo. Car is Blk/Blk, 8400 miles and they are asking $104,000.00, but I am sure you will be able to get a couple grand more off. Original sticker was $123k+ and it has some extra interior pieces in it. Also has a hardwired V1 with remote display. Anyway, just passing along info, I have no ties to this vehicle any longer. If interested I will help facilitate. Here are some pics of my old car:

Remember also, what dealers are paying for these cars and go up from there.

2003 911 Turbo----Dealer wholesale---- $96k
2002 911 Turbo----Dealer Wholesale----$85k

If the car is an X50 add $5k to above. Use these numbers and move up from there and you should be safe.

Lou: Your X-Car looks great as usual.

I have been looking and 01's are from 75 to 85k. SO you see a BIG swing in price. I got to look at the Manheim reports for last week and 01's with 10 to 15k miles were selling around 72 to 76k.

Hope that helps

Tim,

You still haven't found a good one huh? Its difficult to buy used Porsche's unless you know the owner. I myself think my best move to replace my totalled 2004 Turbo is to buy a used 2003 with low miles next spring. I should forget the Turbo "S" and the GT2 and buy a used Turbo. Come next spring gonna be tough to find a clean one.

Twin:

Yup I was right. Last ones I looked at had a 72 in there and a 76 etc.

Interestingly enough I ran the numbers on 02 C4S's and they were from 66 to 68ish. Yet dealers say they are only worth 62. Kinda ticks one off to see that you can't get "wholesale" any more. Heck you grab a car for 63 and just wholesale it for 67, bang a quick 4k.

Oh well I will get off my soap box.

Have to remember that a dealer might take a car in for 63 and get 67k. Less the fees and stuff he will end up making 3k. If I lay out 63 grand, I want to make 3k. We can lay out 2k sometimes and make over a thousand, but dealers do get stuck with alot of loosers. What you don't see on the auction sheets are all the cars that did NOT sell and the dealers that are stuck with them. Auction cars are only selling at around 60% right now. It is not as easy as it sounds.I know most dealers are greedy pigs, but there are a few of us that are honest and just want our piece of the pie. I would be more than happy to help anyone out from this board on buying or selling thier vehicles(all kinds).
