Wastegate springs

I have a 03 TT and I just upgraded to k24's from stock k16's. Are the stock wastegate springs on the GT2's the same as the 911TT? I am going to upgrade my intercoolers and thought I would upgrade the wastegates if it was an improvement.

I also changed out the diverters and got the FVD GT2 flash upgrade.

You need to upgrade your wastegates...I have the X50 and UMW flash, and used Kevin's wastegate upgrade spring kit...but the kit takes some better-than-average mechanical know how to install. Is it worth it...absolutely...you might be better ahead buying the upgraded wastegates themselves rather than just the kit....however do a search on wastegate broken actuator rods....becoming fairly common occurrence. Check with Tony at EPL or Kevin at UMW, and DO A SEARCH on the subject.....upgrading the wastegates holds your boost longer. Im now running 1.1 and 1.2 Bar on boost.

Thanks I will do that. Sounds like with the upgraded wastegate they modify the actuater rods?

No...the rods remain the same...it's just the springs and some retaining rings to hold both halves of the bell assembly together...you have to cut open the assembly to get the springs out...that means grinding off the folded over portion of the bell assembly to get the two halves apart. That's why it takes a bit more mechanical know-how than average. There is a DIY on this I think put out by Kevin from UMW....you have to search for it.

There is no common definition for "upgraded wastegate"... different vendors have different approaches.

UMW has a kit in which you open your stock ones and re-seal them, so it retains the stock rods

EVOM had some with a replacement rod, which was threaded the entire length. One wastegate needs a 'jog' in the rod and when the threaded rod was bent, the threads caused a 'stress concentrator' at the sharpest bend point and rods were failing.

As I undersntand it, newer designs have no threads where they are bent.

Check out the usual offernings- UMW, EVOMs, EPL, etc
