Should I Install Coilovers?

I am waiting on a set of JIC coilovers for my 01 996TT but am having second thoughts about installing them and would like opinions. Specifically:

- Do they really make a big difference? I do not track the car.

- Will the ride be too harsh (they are 8kg/12kg)?

- Will lowering the car cause it to scrap on every little bump or incline?

- I have read about droplinks breaking on JIC coilovers and/or they make strange noises. Is this a problem?

- Any other thoughts/opinions?

Thanks!

Yes they will make a difference, esp if you want to lower the car.

Those spring rates do seem a bit high.

Dropping it 1.5 inches to 2 inches, should keep things manageable.

There have been several posts regarding this matter

- Any other thoughts/opinions?
My opinion, get the JRZ rs setup.

Thanks!
I hope this helps

I am waiting on a set of JIC coilovers for my 01 996TT but am having second thoughts about installing them and would like opinions. Specifically:

- Do they really make a big difference? I do not track the car. YES

- Will the ride be too harsh (they are 8kg/12kg)? More harsh than stock but manageable

- Will lowering the car cause it to scrap on every little bump or incline? You need to re-learn how to drive the car. Avoid potholes and go up ramps on angles

- I have read about droplinks breaking on JIC coilovers and/or they make strange noises. Is this a problem? YES, do a search

- Any other thoughts/opinions? From your questions, why are you getting JICs? It seems that PSS9/10s or H&Rs maybe better suited for your needs.

Thanks!

If you do not track the car, and are not hitting the driving limits of the factory suspention I would not change. But the coilovers are certainly streetable and the drop looks nice.

I was going to get some JRZ coilovers but was told to get motons instead. I guess JRZ's have reliability issues when driven on the street?

I was seriously considering jrz's but went with moton's as most everyone that had them highly recommended them.

jrz have reliability issues? can they be any worse than motons?

I just added a set of JIC 8/12s to my car while lowering it to GT2 ride height. I had the same concerns as you regarding ride, noise, etc. To be honest the ride is considerably better than I expected after reading through the posts on here. I have them set at mid level damping in both the front and the rear, and the ride is completely bearable. Even passengers have commented on the ride quality being good.

One thing about the JICs is they do allow more road noise in the cabin. That doesn't bother me at all since it provides a less isolated feeling, which I like.

As far as street handling goes, it really is a night and day difference. As other have said on here, the car now feels like it's on rails.

well, from my experience my JRZ setup was really meant for the track use instead of the street use. my car use to be a daily driver in NYC (i'm really starting to think NYC has the worse roads in the world) on 19" TechArt wheels. the ride was pretty harash which i was okay with, kindof liked it. the car felt like a go-cart on steriods BUT my shocks was sent in for re-bulit twice in 6 months (once in the front and once in the rear). also the pot holes and bad roads was constantly causing stuff to go out of specs (in street driving it appears that all the adjustability in the higher end track coil-over kits is NOT a good thing since its just more things to go wrong)

i brought my car to paul at protomotive for some simple body work and he explained to me why my JRZ setup really not meant for the street and if i wanted my car to spend less time in the shop and more time on the street i should def switch to the H&R or PSS9 setup. both the H&R and the PSS9 are very reliablie kits designed to be driven on the street. the shocks won't leak or need to be rebuilt (if it does, they will warranty it).

after i went from the JRZ to the H&R, my car didnt' handle as well and it was a little different in terms of feel since the H&R setup has progressive springs while the JRZ has striaght springs (in the H&R setup it seems that the harder you drive the car, the better it handles so during everyday 50mph crusing, the suspension is actaully not too hard and drives like stock, but if you step on it and take a turn at 9.0mph, it handles better than stock. in the JRZ setup, during everday 50mph crusing, the ride was quite harsh and the suspension defintely did not like bumps/imperfections in the road but it handled really well, can you say go-cart on steriods?

I have pss10...they are adjustable, mine are more compliant than stock but more sporty also. Lower only one to 1.25 inches and you will only very rarely have clearance issues. Looks great and changes the handling a lot...for the better. Still comfortable daily driver. You don't need anything more than pss10 for street, don't get H&R if not adjustable in my opinion.

I want to get coil overs for my 03 Turbo but Damon at the Tire Rack told me that they have none in stock, they're all back ordered. H&R, PSS9 and 10's.
