DO NOT DO IT!!!!!!!
Xico put one on his car and it destroyed BOTH turbos!!! It is not a closed system meaning dirt can get around the filter and into the impellers...

RUF do offer the service of coming over to where you are and installing any of his R-turbo kits on your car. They are expensive but you do get your money's worth with the reliability of his conversations. I've been in both an R-GT2 with BHP550 and a one off R-turbo with over BHP600 and you can not believe the power and torque these things are capable of.

9ff has a dealer in Jeddah, I think. You can check them out as well. I can't comment on 9ff because I haven't seen any of their products but they seem to hold the top speed record in the tuner challenge held at Nardo recently.

If you want an easy and safe upgrade to your intake, install a BMC air filter. If you want to go further with it, some have cut away part of the front of the airbox to try and get more flow. Just replacing your stock filter with the BMC filter will net some decent results though, especially for the price.

You've mentioned this twice now, this really intrigues me as I've never had a problem with GruppeM intakes (a bunch of people use them in the BMW community) or products. These intakes have run flawlessly with true horsepower gains not to mention incredible fabrication.

If you've ever seen one apart, they use a K&N Cone filter element, similar to the BMC ones - with a completely closed element (unless installed incorrectly) - the carbon kevlar housing that is used for the wind tunnel is a closed route that pulls air from the rear factory intake opening directly to the air filter.

Unless installed incorrectly, I see no way of dirt getting past the filter and into the impellers.

The only reason I haven't gone with the GruppeM for my car (seeing as how I have their exhaust) is that no config. is available as of yet for the 3.6L (they make one for the 3.4L) and I'm considering the EVO Supercharger kit...

I bring it up because it is true... Champion Motorsports sold him the intake and it was faulty for sure, otherwise they would not have refunded his money AND paid him for new turbos... There is nothing to be messed up when installing...it is NOT a closed system (at least this one was not).

Hey Evan,
Trying to get to the bottom of this, you just keep mentioning "It blew up - it's true" , which I do believe that it blew up, but rather than just dismiss it at that (and it really surprises me that Champion would do that as well) I truly want to know what happened - (and I'm sure those that are interested in this would as well)

ALL GruppeM intakes are "closed" systems, take a look at the internal shot I posted below (this if of my E46 M3 intake system when brand new).

Carbon Kevlar doesn't flake easily - unless something happened past the element or during install, I can't see this happening.

There are literally thousands of BMW users, hundreds of Ferrari users, and numerous NSX owners that have used the GruppeM filtercharger with no issues...

We've got 3 turbos running this intake here, no problems. As long as you are getting the US-spec GruppeM (with a US part number), then you won't have any issues.

There are gray products floating around out there from Europe, which are engineered differently.

US-version intakes have a special MAF housing and are made from a different mold.

You sound like a broken record...give it up already, the turbo's did not fail due to the intake, but rather due to installation error or simply because the wrong intake was used for that specific vehicle.

If it was a design flaw, then our cars would have failed as well...this is not the case.

And for the record, ALL GRUPPEM INTAKES ARE "SEALED". To claim otherwise is simply ludicrous.

Your posts are bordering on libel...thin ice my friend, thin ice.

Technik,

What tuner are you associated with in Los Angeles? Why do you use these intakes? Looks or performance? Have you documented any actual power gains? If so, please share your results.

Thanks,

Craig
