01 vs. 02 Turbo

I'm getting clashing information here. What are the differences between the 2001 and 2002 996 Turbo? I know the latter has a glove box. But I'm really wondering about are rigidity, performance, lift characteristics.

I know that Porsche upgraded the 2002 911. Excellence says.... 15% improvement to radiator flow...lift reduction (25% at front, 40% in rear) as well as stiffer door sill, seat pan and roof areas. They say improvements in handling, ride quality and safety. Coupe was 25% stiffer and Cab 10%. Longer springs were used and the rear suspension was modified.

Is that the case with the 02 Turbo or was it the same as 01?

Thanks!

My understanding is that they are identical except the glovebox. The early 01s came with solid spoke wheels that weigh about 5lb more per corner and have front bumber "warts".

IMO 02+ X50 package and sport seats are the way to go.

Well I can tell you they're not identical - the horseshoe around the center console has a seam in it on both sides in the 01 that isn't there on the 02's. Not significant, but a difference.

01 is lighter.
early 01's had the front bumper "warts", later ones do not.
01's had solid spoke wheels, 02's had hollow spokes, however, see #1
02's have flat black swithgear
02's have Bose (01's sound system's sucked)
02's have cupholders
02's have glovebox
02 is not stiffer, etc. The chassis that was released for the 01 Turbo was applied to the Carrerra line in 02. all of the comments above refer to the 02 non Turbos. The chassis part number for the 01 turbo and the 02 turbo are the same.

I have an 01 Turbo and an 02 Cab. The only thing that bugs me about the 01 Turbo is that the sound system is a POS.

Good luck.
