Nissan's fake claim at the "RING"
Nissan's fake claim at the "RING"
Dunno if any of you guys have red this yet http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/997-...ns-claims.html. Whats your take on this....
To be honest it means nothing. I dont care if the GT-R is the fastest car at th ring or not. If I was buying a car this would have ZERO impact on my decision. People get all caught up in these numbers when the really mean nothing. You buy a GT-R or a 997 TT because that is the car YOU like not because of stupid lap time and the "ring". I dont think is such a big deal at all.
One more thing. Posche ran the tests which is adds a little doubt. They should get a perosn who has no intrest in either end and run the cars back to back to see the results. Until this happens I dont trust either company. There is one thing to me that is strange and thats the fact the GT-R after looking at its HP/Torque and its weight it does not seem like it should be fatser than the 997 TT but most mags have tested both and the GT-R has run better times most of the time on the same track. Who knows as I said in the above post.

I've seen GT-R run in person and it is an impressive car for ~$80k. I don't know how they got the fat pig to dance but it does dance well. It may not be as fast as Nissan claims, but it def is not a slow car.
As for comparing the 2 cars by a third party, it is hard to imagine who would not have some kind of bias. IMHO, the American car magazines fiddle with all kinds of figures and data, and are subject to bias. There is no 'J.D. Powers' type of company in this domain that I know of.
I doubt that you can buy a Nissan GTR for $80K. I believe they are all marked up in terms of price, but I could be wrong.

I'd like to see proof that Porsche really said that. Doubtful.
My guess is that the Nissan's use of computers allow it to do things that us mortals couldn't do. Sort of like modern day jet fighters.
Based on all the car magazine articles, it looks like the Nissan can walk the talk. Unless of course all the cars the give the magazines have ALL been modified.

I see a few possibilities and the response time frame will depend on which one happens.
1) Porsche claims the guy didnt say it, or was misquoted
2) Nissan sues or threatens to sue leading back to #1
3) Nissan just rebutes and says the car was standard, though they've claimed that before
4) Nissan offers a) an open to public test of a real standard GT-R or b) Nissan challenges Porsche to a ring duel (which would be bloody freaking awesome!!!)
Either way, Nissan will not take this lightly, something WILL happen from it. I cant wait to see what. Given their questionable history, especially at the ring, this is bad for them, so they'll be pissed. I expect some long distance calls from Japan to Germany are going on about now.

I cant believe how fast this thing has spread. It's like a widfire, it's everywhere. I hope that Porsche guy knew what he was getting himself into.
Though he does have back from people like Horst and Alan Prost. I wonder how many times engineers get interviewed in this manner while just doing special projects and such. I dont think it's a coincidence this ended up being the shot heard around the world.
The fanboys are in panic, it's unbeleivable. Nissan has to undoubtedlly prove one way or they'll go down as 3 times a liar. (7:59, 10.01, 7:29)
