Fault code on 02 GT2

Hi All,

Everytime I see my 6 year old Godson and I have a new car he has to go for a ride, sit in the drivers seat and I try and help him experience the car as much as possible.

For a 6 year old he has been in some real metal, Porsches, Lotus, Ferarri etc.

He knows stats and stuf about cars that most adults do not even know!

Anyway I let him sit in the GT2 yesterday and rev the car... he must have revved it to 6k at cold, he is normally fine and this and just gives it a little blip.

His father commented that there was some black smoke evident.

Any way later that day we all had to go out and we get his booster seat and fix him into the passenger bucket, as we are driving I realise the car does not feel right. A quick check of the boost guage shows only 0.4 max boost every time.

We get the car back and I disconnect the battery, re connect it and go for a test drive.... still 0.4 but after about 8 mins of driving the car suddenly comes back to life and 1.0 bar and even sometimes 1.1 which I have never seen.

The car normally runs to 1.0.

So all seems fine.

I check the fault codes today and I have:

PO234 Boost pressure deviation, exceeds limit value.

as well as

Fault code 660 CAN timeout instrument cluster.

Any thoughts? was it the revving?

Many thanks

It may be as simple as the MAF that did not like it. The black smoke is extra fuel and the boost irregularity could be the MAF or boost cycle valve. After you reset the codes I would just drive it a bit and if the car is just not the same (even if it makes more power/boost) you should have it looked at. A vacuum line may have been affected as well. The cars are generally pretty bullet proof though.

Thanks for your reply Sam, I have cleared the codes and driven the car at full boost and then checked the fault codes again but nothing is showing.

I guess the car went into some kind of limp mode.

Thanks

my guess is the wastegate stuck open or shut: if it stuck open the exhaust gas would have bypassed the turbo so it would not produce boost.. if is stuck shut it could have sensed an over boost and put it into limp mode is sounds like its running good now you could take it in or u cold just drive it like you stole it and see if it happens again .. just a guess

Glad to hear it. sounds like limp mode. Are you gonna hit the "crack pipe" and modify the car?
