Impression: Autocross and TTs
This past weekend I autocrossed my 02 996TT X50 for the first time... It was a blast and I was very impressed with how the car performs. My car even has only the stock suspension.
The chassis is much more neutral than I thought it would be. My old RS America was easy to "pitch and catch" in tight corners, but the TT would not trailing throttle oversteer unless at speeds over 50 mph.
Definitely a slow in fast out car. Too much speed on turn in and it understeers badly (I have 315/25/19 rears and 235/35/19 fronts which only makes the understeer worse.
However, a late apex and on the gas early and it will power oversteer in a very controlled way (PSM on or off). The slalom is where it really impressed me. Since it is heavier than the early 911s and 944 / 914s it should be slower in the slalom, but when pitching it side to side it was very stable with no significant under or oversteer on Toyo T1r tires. I followed a spec class 944 (which I chased and caught) that was oversteering badly through the same section.
It ran hard all day long in 80+ degrees without any incident, other than the chrome peeling off the lip of one of my rear wheels (possibly due to wheel flex??). It's on it's way back to the maufacturer now.
I ran 45 psi rear and 34 psi front. Hot (right off the track) they were 49 rear and 41 front.
Anyone else AX their TT? Any tips on set up?

have fun.
What is your starting pressure to achieve 38-40 hot?
Do you run your front tires a bit softer than the rears?
A local indy that builds Porsche race cars (Black Forest) told me that the 235's up front are not big enough to counter the 315 rears and suggested 245/30 or even 255/30 fronts. What do you run up front?
Thanks,
Bill.
