Need tire suggestions for 750-800 rwhp
I'd love to see some bigger R compound tires offered. I've used R compound tires for years, but in more recent times rims are getting bigger and I'm not seeing the (R compound) tire manufactures keeping pace with today's larger rims. I understand 19" and 20" drag radials and road racing tires might not be ideal, but there are now a lot of folks running these taller wheels on the street with very few tires to fit them. I know there are plenty of street tires out there for these wheel sizes, but not only are they expensive and lack the softer compounds, but we (the consumer) can't use these for dual purpose usage. I'd LOVE to see some big R compound tires (305, 315, 345) in 19 and 20 inch sizes!
Also, I had the Nitto 555R (rear) and RII (front) tires on another car and I was very impressed with this combo. You wouldn't think the DR would match well with the road racing tires, but those 555R's handled the corners very well and hooked excellent. I have to agree with the earlier recommendations for these tires, they are an excellent all around tire for the street and limited track useage. I just wish they offered it in a 345/30/20, and the 555RII in some 19" sizes.

I've only had some used Nitto's and they don't seem to last too long. I guess it's the same for any DR. Seems like an expensive tire to waste on the road.
Well I guess no R compound tire will last very long on the street when compared to std street tires, but all the Nittos I've had have lasted 10k or more if not totally abused. Many more miles than M/T DRs or what I've gotten out of a set of Hoosiers! Agreed 10k isn't a lot of miles, but for anything that's not a DD, that can be a fairly long time and they can certainly increase the utility and fun factor of a high HP car on the street. Also, R compound tires are generally cheaper than premium street tires (which offer less grip), so it's a trade off I don't mind taking for a weekend toy.
With that said, I'm running street 'bling' on my Viper almost exclusively, but I'd prefer to put some DRs on my 20's if for nothing else to make the car safer and more enjoyable on the street. I realize DRs on 20s are kind of a waste and that 17" or 18" dedicated DR's hook WAY better, but honestly, who wants to run home and switch wheels every time you want to really lay into it? For a trip to the track I agree this is the way to go, but I'd like to have a little grip on the street was well w/o having to switch wheels every time I lay into the peddle!

I agree. I actully don't run the DR's, except at the track. I am running the Sumitomo's right now, and they are pretty good. They seem to stick pretty good as long as it is warm out. I am running stock wheels and tire sizes.

You can put a lot of meat under a Viper or a Z06 and they still have traction issues.
Very true. My friend's TT Viper still has issues hooking with cheater slicks.
