Rethinking my upcoming mods...

I have a 01 TT and want to add some mods to the car. First off, it's not going to be a drag or dyno queen. It's going to be a street and highway car. I am seriously considering a 600-650 package but would like some opinions on what fits me best.

I prefer getting something that will give me power from 0-110mph. I don't ever see myself going faster than that. Reliability and drivability is extremely important and I will be running pump gas. Any suggestions/experiences you can share? Thanks

I have a near perfect set of UMW 16/24's w/wg's for sale, these are very nice and you can expect about 500rwhp out of them, these have around 700 miles on them.

Sounds like a flash, exhaust, dv's would be good enough for you...

if the car is completely stock get a BMC air filter, new diverters, upgrade the waste gates. performance exhaust and a reliable ECU flash. that will take you to around 500.

if not good enough get the turbo in for a hybrid compressor, that will do it, then end of story unless you are going to a race track.

Tom,

If I get the tune and then get the hybrid turbos, I assume I will need to retune again?

Marksi,

Yeah, I have been talking with Todd about it and it'll run me close to $10k after install I believe (still have to get with Akram to see how much he charges to install). I just wasn't sure if I "need" the 650 kit when all I want is some low-end power and some spirited hwy runs.

enjoy the car stock a couple months then add a tune and exhaust. maybe change the clutch pedal master cylinder from the gt2.

i would just do the hybrid turbos... that is where you will end up going sooner rather than later on second thought save yourself some time/money/frustration/indecisiveness and go with the garrett gt30's right off the bat thats where is where i will eventually end up after i get these darn 20g's on

Lets turn the question around a bit:

WHO will be doing the work?

CHOOSE a shop/tuner FIRST....

Then choose the parts. Parts are easy.

IMHO

I'd also break it into a few stages, unless you want to do it all as one.

Stage 1 - Power: Flash, exhaust, DVs
Stage 2 - Suspension
Stage 3 - Turbos, wastegate, ICs?, Fuel?

You CAN do 1+3, but stopping after the relatively 'stand alone and non-duplicative' stage 1 items makes a nice 'step'.

Look at the zero clearance hybrids. I think this will minimize spool up and optimize low end torque and power.

You've read the threads...figure out how YOU will get the work done, and work backwards from there.

for just plain factory type reliabilty and bang for the buck I think around a stage 4 if perfect. any thing more and you are looking for constantly having to tweak stuff and start to have nagging issues that occaisionally occur.

I agree with everything but the order of tuning. Do the suspension first. In stock form the car has great power and brakes. The US suspension sucks, too high and too soft. For the street get some PSS 10s and H&R sways. Exhaust is next since none of the flash kits will work without it. Do things one step at a time. But most of all find a good shop that has lots of experience with Porsche mods.
