I know that with Protomotive, if you buy k16 software and upgrade to k24/18g's, it's only about $300 to change to 18g software.

Several tuners offer a program for both k16 and k24/18g turbos. These would include Protomotive, EPL, and Softronic. There may be others which I'm unaware of, but I know for a fact the 3 above do. I went with Protomotive and couldn't be happier, but there are also similar success stories with EPL and Softronic.

Just my $0.02...
^^^^ What this guy said.

+1

I went with Protomotive and am very happy with my results. This place is a goldmine for good information.

A good quiet exhaust would be AWE (later build or updated), Cargraphic quiet, Europipe quiet, or Milltek. Sorry if I forgot one. The idea of cutting out the cats from a factory system is not so bad up 500~hp but them you will need to upgrade soon anyway. The above systems will take you to 650hp and you may find one used. The fact that they are good quality helps in the used dep.

The ECU advise you have is good. Lot's to choose from that will be open to upgrades in the future. IMHO this is the order you should go in:
1.) ECU
2.) Exhaust and 3-5mm tighter (to achieve 1.1 bar) wastegates
3.) K&N or BMC air filter
4.) Diverter valves

- Now you are around 500-ish hp -

5.) Now you get to the whopper. 24/18G's, two choices.
a.) 5 bar fuel reg. and ECU upgrade making 630-650hp pushing it.
b.) Fuel injectors with ECU upgrade making 630-650hp safe. Even close to that on pump gas with room for more. MAF upgrade will help reliability, responce and a little with power.
6.) Intercoolers/hoses
7.) This level and up is crack-pipe time! Hold on to your hat!
