clutch suggestions
My newly chipped 996tt has developed a clutch slip from 3000-4000 rpm with wot. It has 55k miles and the PO never tracked it or raced. So I guess its time for a new clutch. My plans are to keep it as a street car with only the stage 2,exhaust and diverters. So the car is going to stay below 600hp. What I want is longevity and the oem clutch only lasted 55k so I want to upgrade it, but don't think the multidisk expense is needed. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I would recommend the Clutch Masters Stage 3 with full disk. The Clutch Masters kit has been talked about alot on this forum. It is capable of holding 700HP but drives like stock with better bite. They actually use a Sachs Pressure Plate and Sachs Clutch Disk which then they beef up with their own material and specs. The kits include the OEM Porsche throwout bearing. I have installed several here and sold many nationwide. Always very very good results. When I had my 996TT I ran the same clutch but I went with the race version which was a 6puck design. Same bite but getting out of 1st gear stalled alot.
So... $1500 shipped to your door, go with the Clutch Masters Stage 3 Full Disk Clutch Kit. If your flywheel is hotspotted and needs to be replaced, you can get a new OEM flywheel for about $1100 or you can go with the Single Mass Aasco lightweight flywheel which greatly improves turbo spool as the car revs faster. However that flywheel will have some chatter when idling.

since this gentleman is planning on stopping at ecu, dv's and exhaust (500hp), is there a cheaper option for an upgraded clutch. a lot of the clutches suggested are good for 700 hp, but that seems a bit of overkill for a 500 hp car.

The Clutch Masters Stage 3 is perfect for that. Its capacity will allow it to hold up to 700hp but drives like OEM. If the customer wants to send us his clutch, we can upgrade it to the Stage 3 for $1000.
Thank you all for the feedback; the only reason I'm not upgrading further is I already track a highly modified 951 and unfortunately don't fit in the 996tt with a helmet for the de's so it will stay only mildly modified.
