Just installed my speaker covers today

Well, I finally got around to installing the carbon fiber speaker covers I picked up from Michelle at Cargraphic today. Not the easiest project I have attempted, but I think they look great.

Funny, because after I installed them I took the car for a drive and it felt significantly faster...

The emblem has two wires that are just bent over that hold it on. I removed them from my old covers and put them on the new ones.

Alright, first of all I found detailed instructions on Renntech.org for removing the door panel. Without that, I would have made no headway. You have to be logged into their web site to view the page, but if you search for "door panel removal" you will find the it. It has good illistrations to help with the process.

As it describes, you can use a plastic spatula (this works well) to release the clipped connection out of the door handle on all sides. This is the dividing line on the door handle. As you push the plastic spatula into the crease, move it along the line. You will see and hear the clips releasing.

Once you have removed that section, you will need to remove three screws. Two are Torx Bolts size T-30 the third is a philips head screw. After removing the 3 screws, you can begin to pop the door panel loose. I just used a screw driver under the bottom edge and worked my way around. I only went up halfway on each side as this gave me enough room to work on the speaker grills.

The grills themselves are held in place with push on nuts. You will need to loosen them slightly by prying a screwdriver under the edge. Once you have done that, you can apply pressure to the front of the grill close to the nut you are trying to remove. This worked for me as it just popped the nuts off.

Just put the new grill in place and reverse everything above...... I was able to reuse all the original nuts and clips.

Unfortunately, he gained weight... the door speakers are carbon fiber OVER the normal plastic... adding weight.

But who cares... they look awesome!
