ABS/PSM failure message

Well the other day when I got up to about 120mph on route 50 (no traffic), my ABS and PSM light went on, saying there was a failure. I had slowed down and restarted, and the light went off.
Now last night around 2:30am, I was on route 70 towards Frederick, and once again no traffic. I had a buddy in the car, and wanted to show him how quickly the TT accelerates. I had the car to about 162mph, and once again the light goes on. At the time, I was not braking, but still accelerating. Does anyone know why this light erratically goes on at higher speeds? Thanks everyone.

Also, I only excessively speed when absolutely there is the minimal amount of traffic or no traffic. I am not a reckless driver.

Is your TT chipped?
If you hit a deer at 160+, you're toast.

I had this problem, although it was not speed-related. It turns out that my techart coilovers were the culprit. They would occasionally pinch the (electronic) brake wire in the wheel well, causing ABS & PSM failure. It was fixed by simply zip-tying the wire out of the way of the coilover.

You might want to take your car to the dealer and have them hook it up to the PST-II. This will tell them where the failure occurred.

BTW, I've been known to speed 120++ occasionally, and unfortunately I have to say that it is reckless.

Actually the car is not chipped as far as I know. I am the second owner, and had the car in for service at the dealer, but was never told that the car was chipped.

And yes, anything over 100mph is reckless, but not to anyone except for me.
Thanks for the insight, and I will get it checked out by the dealer on the next trip.

I agree with Trojanman--it doesn't take much to disrupt the electrical current and flip on the ABS PSM failure. I had a bad connector on the harness running from the ABS control unit to my left front wheel. But in my case, it would always manifest itself under hard braking (short of triggering the ABS, however). That little diddie cost me a couple sets of track tires until they finally replaced everything and figured it had to be a wiring issue. Under warranty, so other than the tires it didn't cost me.

Ditto Trojanman's comments. I have had this problem twice. Techart's original coilover kits did not come with a bracket to tie the ABS/PSM wiring harness away from the coilover. Therefore, the coilovers tug on the wiring harness and, eventually damage it, thereby causing the ABS/PSM failure. The first time it happened, the pump for my ABS system was also damaged . . . . $3k+ repair. Fortunately, By Design and CEC took responsibility for the problem and paid for the fix. Replacing the wiring harness is much less expensive.

According to the dealer, the wiring harness occassionally gets stretched/damaged on stock cars as well.

Have the dealer replace the wiring harness, and make sure that the wiring harness is clear of your suspension.

I was wondering exactly where is the wiring harness. If I were to remove the wheels, could I access the harness and securely zip tie them to a stable part of the car? If not possible, I will take it to the dealer for repairs then. Thanks everyone.

this happened to my car the other day, and it was a faulty MAF. When I picked my car up and drove it, it was making a turbo spool up sound, accompanied by a nice BOV sound when letting off the throttle, sounded like a Supra. Eventhough it sounded cool, I knew something was wrong... then later the car started to idle at 1600 rpms, and the abs/psm **** came on, then later the check engine came on. Dan replaced my MAF and when he cleared the fault codes the car went back to normal.

btw, 120 isnt reckless... i had mine up to 186 mph one early Sunday morning just recently on an open freeway with NO other cars around (so no flames please)... I had set the LIMIT chime to 185 mph (max setting) and it went off . The car felt stable as a rock, nothing like downforce and areodynamics,.
