1/4 mile cold temp advice request.
1/4 mile cold temp advice request.
Went to SA Raceway last night for Midnight Madness. It was the coldest temp 34 deg per my dash and I was extremely excited to see what my Proto650 would put out with the nice cold air and high boost with 108 fuel. First run I launched at 4k and had a good amount of wheel hop with psm off and tires lowered to 29 ft/34 rear. I ran a 11.8@125 and my best time so far has been 11.7@127. My second pass I lowered tires to 25 rear and kept front same as before. I think I launched harder at 4500-5000 rmp and the car bounced all over the place with a 12.0@123.5. Called it a night. I'm not used to this wheel hop stuff b/c I typically run in 70+ degrees. What gives here. Was I launching to high in the pwr band for the temp?
Home bound with tires back to 36/44 I enjoyed seeing psm go off several times with 3rd and 4rth gear pulls and saw the dash boost at 1.4 bar holding so no doubt the set up likes the cold air. I would appreciate feedback from all those who have more seat time in cold temps. Thanks!

Careful with your BAR @ 1.4. If you say you don't have a 700 kit then you probably don't have injectors. I really have no clue what I'm talking about but, 1.2 on race gas is more likely a safer boost level to run with a stock fuel system.
As far as the 1/4 mile, I've netted my fastest 60' times launching around 3KRPM or less. Short shift first gear at 6250 RPM and ride out all the other gears. The best bet for getting a good time is going to a day at the track when there aren't so many rednecks.
Good luck. I know you can make it into the 10's, just takes a few more pulls then 3

********I typically see 1.25 on the greddy and 1.3 on dash on warmer days on race fuel. I questioned Akram and Todd at Proto about cold days and high boost and they told me my system is set up to dump any overboost in a cold situation to protect itself. I have a 5 bar fpr and denso plugs but I don't recall if they did my injectors.

*********Got ya, everytime I launch near 3k my car bogs at the line so I started to rev higher. My better times had 60ft in the high 1's like 1.9. Thanks for the feedback.

I pretty much expected the car has low 11's in it so that's the goal for now. All that hopping freaked me out, I'm just glad I did not break and axle
. Thanks Todd.

Track temperature is likely too cold. Your RPM is fine during most conditions, I would suggest riding out the clutch a bit more and letting it take some of the abuse, you will get less wheel hop and your axles will thank you.
We just got a nice cold front here in FL, it's about time !

Onelove-Good word and confirmation about what I was told the ats carbonetics triple disc clutch "loves to be slipped". In retrospect, even though my head was saying slip, my foot was likely dumping
. Practice Practice
. Thanks.
What I usually do it practice on the street coming out of the hole light to light. Normally by the time I make the 3-4 lights on the way to the track I have a good feel for the car on much slicker roads. Translating it to the track can take a bit more practice but once you get the feel for it and loose the fear you'll notice your times go down quite a bit. It's definately much easier when you know you have a clutch that will hold anything you can throw at it. Invest in a Gbox and you can get a good idea of how well you are leaving while practicing your launching using the 0-60 function.
127mph trap is good for High 10's? I would think you would need a couple more MPH to get down to a 10. A low 11 sounds about right.
Since you already have the 18G you should do the fuel system and turn the car into a beast. Then youll def be good for high 10s

Yea i found slipping the clutch worked the best on a cold track, I was leaving at 15-1700 and ridding it out to get 1.9 but it blows the tires away if you release to early, Pratice pratice, Like Wes said.
From my results and experience, I think Chris is spot on - anything is possible, but in general, when I was running 126-127 peak trap with 16/24 hybrids my ET's were 11.5 to 11.7, so an 11.3 would have been a very good run. Now, with a trap of 130-131.75, I have ET'ed 11.01, 11.08, 11.1, 11.2. With a little more boost/power, it would make sense that ET and trap would slightly improve, which would yield a high 10 and 132+ trap...I have kept the boost under 1.3 bar (1.24-1.27) with race fuel on all 1/4 mile runs.

careful with the wheel hops... You will end up towing the car home if you dont let off quick.. As for the launch the vbox is a great idea. I had pretty good runs leaving in the 2's... Had ceramic clutch that was tempermental to say the least but the kit you have can do a 10~~ !! you need to pracitice. Dont over shoot the rpms..stay in your powerband! and shift quick..dont lose boost!
