New M5 Fly-By Video, link inside
Sounds good but I wish Bangle would stop hitting all the new designs with ugly sticks.
BMW needs to reassign or get rid of Mr. Bangle.

I was at BMW yesterday and have come to realize that either white or black 5-series with the right wheels looks good to me. The design has been growing on me like the 7 never did/will. I'm sure the M5 will look even better and its performance will be great. It will be as it always was, a supreme sports sedan and not a sports car. I might get one in the 3rd - 4th year of production but not right away. I'm guessing it will have more bugs than a take-out kitchen.
Guys,
Has anyone driven the most recent M5 AFTER they bought their Turbo?
The M5 was a decent car when it came out. If you compare the 2001 Turbo to the 2000 M5 you will agree that the M5 feels like your grand mother's car. Yes, I understand they are two seperate segments of the market.
Right after the new M5 comes out, I'll bet you a dollar, the all new 997 based Turbo will be introduced... And the M5 will feel like your grand mother's car again.
In the sport sedan market the 2004 E55 AMG is pretty hard to beat.
The E55 AMG delivers all the advertised HP and then some. This was not the case with the 2000 M5. One of the board members here - on another board then - was contemplating a law suit against BMW because of the overstated advertised HP.
It remains to be seen if this will be the case with the new car.

I would never compare an M5 to the Turbo, there is no comparison.
That being said, some of us actually prefer gearboxes that are not of the torque convertor kind. And if you want a big sedan with room, and a nice 7 speed SMG that shifts at 65ms, and a V10 motor with 550HP, 8500rpm redline, and 4 separate oil pumps (BMW's way of addressing oil starvation, why they didn't just go dry sump like our M64 block is beyond me), there is only one car out there. I don't care how many HP a Benz has, torque convertor is, and always will be a deal breaker for me.
I will never spend my hard earned $$ on a car with torque convertor, no way, no how. And yes, I drive in LA traffic every day, traffic is a lame excuse. Now, if BMW can just be convinced to not program A mode into the SMG gearbox like the Enzo, the E60 M5 will be perfect. Okay, that and fix that Bangled butt. The front has grown on me.
And why is it that BMW can come up with a sweet SMG system for the M3 which I still to this day miss from time to time, and PAG can do no better than simply programming a slushbox with some fancy shift points then stick it in the Turbo and call it a day? Again, I got the 6 speed because I hate torque convertors, but the clutch on the Turbo is over assisted and without feel, and the shifter clunky. I can only hope that when the 997 Turbo/GT2 come out, that PAG will use their own system instead of the POS DSG box from Audi.
Gotta love 550HP V10 engine with an 8500rpm redline.

I think of the Bangledized E60 as BMW's way of meeting the demand of a hot sports sedan with a sweet tranny and motor.
Anyway, should I get married and have kids in the next few years, I will probably get one of those as the baby/stroller/grocery hauler.
