Very Very Small Oil Leaks...normal?

My 02 996 TT has had a recent FVD ECU upgrade with billeted DV's and BMC filters...just hit 17k miles...

I drive the car maybe once a week for 50 miles or so and I've noticed that there are a couple of drops of oil under the engine...i have an extended warranty so took the car to the dealer and they found nothing wrong with the car...

months go by and the drops still keep coming...no noticeable consumption of oil...car performs perfectly....just drip...drip...ever so slightly...

is this normal? TIA

mmmmm!

The usual is RMS... They are not as bad as some 996 variants but you do occasionally get them... I have had 2 done now.

I would take to someone else for another inspection... if you have a leak... they should be able to trace it... something doesn't sound right!

unless you have a Harley, oil leaks are not normal.

Actually, my old 86 930 leaked like mad...I suspected turbo oil line, but never confirmed it. Just parked it on some cardboard and check the oil every time I drove it!!!

Rear Main Seal.

As in bend over, expose your Rear, make sure your Main checking account has plenty of money, and ask them to Seal it with a kiss when they pull it out!

Seriously.....your warranty should cover it but definitely have them look at it! Not as common on turbos as na motors......

could be other stuff too. cam sensor seal.. etc etc etc

if you're losing a few drops here and there, you should be okay

The oil could be coming from anywhere! An oil crush ring on the tank, the turbo drop tanks, etc. I would not rush to any conclusions until I at least got it in the air or under it to take a look. RMS is not that common of an issue on the 996TT, others yes. This no. Breather housings among a few others have been bigger issues

...that about sums it up. My 930 also leaked all the time, but not my 996TT...make sure it is oil (not another fluid) and have them trace it.

Take it to another place. Could be leaking from your recent add-ons. If a car is leaking oil something is wrong. Most times on the flat 6 oil leaks are easy to find. Worst comes to worse take it to a shop and have them clean the oil leak, and then add uv dye. You drive the car for a bit then bring it back in and they check it under a light. Fairly idiot proof! I would be willing to bet the dealer you took it too is dragging their feet because they don’t want to fix it under warranty. Don’t take sh*t from your dealer over warranty issues. It amazes me at how some places forget what type of car they are working on. Just recently my dealer did an oil change and left it over a quart low. All that for $200 and something that I typically do myself. Good luck!

+1 my 930 leaked oil too, although it wasn't to bad.

Markski graciously offered to look at it for you, I would take him up on it. He's a cool guy and is extreeeemely knowledgeable.
