because to get the Unichip up and running it's a lot cheaper then a Motec. While yes Motec is an unbelievable unit it (the very best i've seen around), i've used it on a few different projects for friends, it's often tricky and isn't as practical on a street daily driven car. Now, don't think i'm saying it can't be done, i've seen it many times

I know you are planning on going w/ motec now, and the GIAC is more advanced then the Unichip but overall as a cheap option what did you think of the Unichip, i've had a few friends put it on some cars and they were happy w/ it.

Sorry, but I replaced the Unichips over a year ago.

My experience is the Unichip can handle up to about 500 rwhp very well. Above that for some reason it starts throwing codes.

They throw codes b/c the unichip has no way to adjust the thresholds of certain sensors controlled by the ECU. You can increase the boost and timing, however in order to do that properly, certain limits in the control unit need to be programmed so the computer recognizes the increased airflow/boost. This cannot be achieved properly without reprogramming the ECU.

Is it linear power with the Unichip? Some have said the turbos don't spool as quickly and you get spikes and peaks in the powerband. How much of that is true?

Lou,

I don't believe the spike and peaks were any different than the modified ECU chips being used today. The only problem I had was codes being thrown all the time after approx. 500 rwhp.

Glade to hear from you again. Been awhile since my time at rennlist.

My Stage 5 is not done yet but should be complete by next week. Chad, if you need a Stage 5 car for the shootout my car will be available. Let me know.

Thanks!

By the way when I was at PES I finally got to see what the 996tt motor looks like, as it was sitting on jack stands!! The KW suspension is installed and looks awesome, I can't wait to get this car on the track!

Yes, we would like to have one represented. I would say you are in. I will contact Dave Colman when he gets back next week from NY and get some confirmed track/strip/dyno dates.

Sure has. Glad to see you are doing well for yourself. I was an outspoken proponent about what happened on Rennlist and still believe everything I wrote. That said, it was one incident, I do not know all the details, and I appreciate the knowledge you have to offer. Obviously, people will not always agree on solutions to a problem and I commend you for being mature about it. It is obvious from reading these posts your strong passions. Wheather people agree or not is unimportant, you show real bal** and have no problem telling it like it is and I like that. Thanks for the response, looking forward to learning more from you. Take care.
