Hi All,

Purchased a set of I-Forged Wheel Essens 19" and I can't get the wheels to balance without having vibrations on my steering wheel. I get a bad vibration going above 60mph, and now I hate driving the car. I installed my stock wheels back on, and the vibration goes away. I have those wheels/ tires "road forced" balanced and it's not solving the problem. Took the wheels to I-Forged and they claimed the wheels are fine. What gives?

 

do they have the proper hole size to fit hubcentric on your car...if the center hole is oversized they won't mount self-centered and that could be a problem...they are infamous for losing balance weights at the track and most racers I know that have them use additional tape to hold the weights onto the wheels...something about the coating they use...check and see if any weights have come off since dynamic balance..

 

Believe it or not, I have re-balanced my tires for the 6th times. I don't track with these wheels, so the weight are still on, freshly done last week. As far as the hub centric, a local wheel repair shop showed me the gap to be about 1-2mm between the wheels and hub. Took the wheels back to I-Forged and they claimed the bored is exactly 71.60 on the wheels and nothing is wrong with them. How can this be??? This wheel repair shop I went to stated that he had 2 Porsches, a boxster and a 911 having the same problem with the same exact wheels.

I had the exact same problem with a set of Modular Wheels 22" on my BMW 7 series. The tire shop could NOT balance the tires after 3 attempts. I was very frustrated as I had no vibrations with my 18" factory wheels. They sent me to a specialty shop that specialized in balancing and alignment only. After 3 hours and $280 the tires were balanced. As I understood they went way beyond "road forced". They had three different balancing machines, one was on-the car balancing at up to 130 MPH. Find a shop like that, they can fix it.

 

it could also be the tires...but the only way to check that is to take the tire off and have a wheel specialist check the wheel...another thing that people don't think about...if you have any water vapor in your tires the colder temps could result in an imbalance...you might want to remove the valve stem and see how much water comes out, if any...good luck

 

When the tires and wheels were forced balanced, no tire issues were mentioned. Back in the days, I had Katana wheels (Volk knock offs) on my MX-6. They didn't even have this problem, and wheels cost $250/ pc.

I have tried America's Tire Co in Ontario, twice. Discount Tires of El Monte, once. America's Tire Co in Rowland, twice and Tire Warehouse in Anaheim once. I don't know if I can take this anymore. Somehow, America's Tire Co in Rowland was able to reduce the vibration but still not totally getting rid of it. I asked them about their balancing system, and they said they're using "old school" equipments.

 

My iForged wheels were perfect out of the box according to my tire guy. I had him spin them before mounting because of some of the stuff out there on the internet and he was impressed with how true they were.

Perhaps your wheels were bent or the tires are out of spec. IIRC there was a batch of PS2s that had problems with being out of round.

 

I am seriously considering slapping the stockers back on, and have them powder coated with M3/M5 liked satin finished. Anyone tried this? Or am I just going crazy dealing with bad wheels/tire issues...

 

Man I feel your pain. I live in the IE and took my car to B&E (909) 986-6603 on Holt in Ontario when two other shops couldn't get my stock flippin' wheels balanced. B&E is the place 911 Design in Montclair uses for their cars. They got it right.

One of the lame no wheel balancing places was a Porsche dealership that has the famous Hunter wheel balancing machine. That means it ain't the equipment, it's the users

When I got new wheels (Thanks Adam) and tires they weren't balanced correctly so I took them to Goodyear (909) 946-1968 at 463 Foothill in Upland. The guys there were shocked at how poorly the balance job was. They got it right also. Good luck

 

Did they provide you with a print out of how far out the roadforce was? I would have to say if the wheels show really low numbers on the roadforce I think you may have a hub centric problem. You can try hub centric rings to fix the problem. Most wheels shops will have them available, put the rings on and torque the wheels in the air. Its worth a try. You should have a snug fit on the hub, if there is play then when you lower to the ground and torque the wheels the hub will rest on the lower part of the bore causing an imbalance issue.
