I'm the contrarian here and probably one of few that have owned both the M3 SMG Convertible AND a 996 TT X50 Convertible Steptronic.

I love my 'new to be TT', but I'd go with one of the BMWs. I absolutely loved my M3 and regret selling it and will have another one soon. It's a compliment to the TT.

The TT isn't practical to carry all four of you beyond the end of your block. The bac seat doesn't cut it. The M3 and 645 would. They're not huge back seats, but they are much bigger.

Of the M3 and the 645, you need to drive them both. The M3 SMG is NOT an automatic. It is a clutch-pedal-less manual. I liked it, but if you're expecting the smoothness and ease of use of an automatic, you'll be disappointed. For example, if you're turning left in traffic and going for a small hole, the SMG can upshift at BAD times. It's not as responsive to quick acceleration and holding a gear as a true auto. I ALWAYS manually shifted in that situation.

The 645 is a real automatic. Depending on you and your wife's comfort, it may be a better choice. It's certainly more luxurious. Not as fast. Maybe not as fun.

Me, I'd sell the 360, but the TT and either the M3 or 645.

'04 TT cab. Will be the most fun to drive and a lot of mods available.

Agree with above. All depends on your priorities for the next car. Unless you are shorter than 5'6" or so, you will be hard pressed to get 2 kids comfortably in the back of the TT. I am 6'1" and my solution was to get an E500 AMG to haul the kids around when the wife's car was tied up.
Between the 2 BMWs, my choice would be the M3 (and I am older than you). The 645 is for people in their 50's.

The fact that your wife is the main driver, and you have 2 children to consider, i would go with the 6... obviously, the 996TT is a much better car to mod, faster, more fun...etc...etc... but that back seat is pretty useless. The 6 is more comfortable, more spacious. Forget the SMG M3...
