996 TT To Elise ?
I was looking at a exige S before getting the TT, the quality of the car is dissapointing, from fit and finish to the paint is worst then a kia. Also the elbow to elbow interior room sucked. Also forget about driving in the rain, cause the roof leaks for the elise.
Only thing I can add that will be perhaps of some value...if you happen to have an incident in a Lotus....it is easy to total the frame (not fixable I think...). I was told this buy a guy at a PCA DE event who had done such a thing to an Elise... he suggested it might be one of those dirty little secrets all the guys in the know already know about, but they don't talk about. He did not lack for funds...he had a dedicated track car that was not street legal....and was new from the factory that way....
Please check this out further...but if you actually plan to use the car on track, keep this in mind and/or perhaps splurge for track insurance as needed....fyi only.
On engines....I have heard good things about the celica powerplant....and a new once/work on one is so much cheaper.

It's got an epoxy/extrusion aluminum frame. As to the comments about size, well to me that is one of the draws. It weighs 2000#, which means it has a 1400# advantage over the 996TT.
One thing I didn't like was the 150MPH computer limited top speed. I think it would be a great track day weapon, or "toy" for the street/autoX/HPDE. If money was not an issue right now, I'd buy the one on Lotustalk. It's an hour from my house and is black with 5K miles on it.
If you've never driven a lightweight car on track, you really don't know what you're missing. My old Datsun Zcars were in the 2500# range and they were sooo tossable in the talent sections! Same with the SpecMiata I rented a few years back!
