996 TT To Elise ?

Due to economic reasons I may be selling the tt. I'm expecting an offer in the high 60's next week.

I was thinking of getting an Elise for awhile until conditions improve plus almost all of my driving of the tt has been short hops which doesn't allow me to drive the car anywhwere to it's potential.

Has anyone gone in this direction or know anyone that has as far a TT to Elise?

Have you driven the Elise yet? I don't think I would be comfortable in it for too long. I'm 6'1" and weigh 210 and I feel very cramped in it.

A friend of mine has an Elise. He's the same height as me 6'3" and says that the large door sill makes entering and egressing the car something of a challenge. Once he's in it he says he's comfortable. He's a track guy and loves the car. If I remember correctly, it weighs under 2000 pounds!

If you can get beyond the power difference , you should be fine. I would suggest finding a way to take an extended test drive yourself, to really get a feel for it.

yeah that door sill was tricky, Similar to the Carrera GT but less interior room.

A great guy at VIR had one (red) in the fast group. It is a finesse car....the big power cars kill it on the straights. But, on the track in a complex/technical area, it is superb...

Running costs are very low. Very low.....he said it was on his calculations 20% of running his gt3 for a track weekend. FYI. I did not do the math.....but if the car is for track and not for a DD...makes sense.

If I could get an Exige 240S, I'd consider trading my 996TT for one and some cash...Those things are potent in the hands of the right driver... Not sure I'm him, but I'd like to give one a try!

Just sold my Elise and bought a TT...you'll love the Elise. The way the car handles is amazing. You'll likely miss the comfort/power of the TT but the Elise is a great car.

Take a look at lotustalk as others have mentioned.

I have quite a bit of seat time in a modded Exige. They are fun cars to drive and handle as expected. I also had a 3.4 engined boxster that was a 97 and only 2700lbs. More than the exige but more power as well. I preferred that car and sold mine, that was beautifully done inside and out for only $30k. There are quite a few 3.4 cars and a few 3.6 or 3.8 cars out there. You might take a drive in one before deciding.

Either way, I can understand the need to downsize and applaud your wisdom in doing so.

tommy several of my friends have them and with these guys at the track all the time. they are great little cars. more like a go kart. handle as well as anything on the track, small interior not really a DD by any stretch and lets face it the bottom line you will miss is no power.

it is a great car and if it was me I would love every minute driving it and no worries!!! you will get more driving skill sets out of it and learn how to drive a car more momentum based. enjoy it!!

Tom,

As usual your comments are always appreciated

Since I started in karts at 12 and graduated to a 914 2.0, I would imagine the Elise will not feel all that foreign.

I want an orange one with black wheels. Oh goody!!
