DRL/LED on a 996

Well executed. I found the LED on Oznium, but was going to use a DRL product from http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Euro-Audi-Hella-Style-LED-Daytime-Running-Lights-DRL-Lamps-s/87.htm Then I found your post, thanks!! Two questions:
  1. Now that you've run them for a year, any issues with the LEDs getting damaged from pebbles, etc?
  2. What is the distance between LEDs (looks to be ~1" on center?). If you were to do it again, would you go to 1.25 or 1.5" on center? Anyone know the spacing for the 997s with DRLs?
Thanks for sharing....

Joe,

Have not had any problems at all with water/road debris. Albeit I haven't put much mileage on the car since I bought it but everything is working just fine.

I think I spaced them about 1" apart and I have no regrets doing it that way

Bulbs & temp

I visited the following thread - https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/997-turbo-gt2/82913-anybody-put-6000k-hids-fogs.htm A lot of discussion about converting the fogs to HID. There was dialog about the temp of the HID as 6000K.

I had some H3 bulbs from an earlier project (with a blue tint) that were 'whiter' than the stock bulbs, but still had too much yellow/not enough blue when the low beam HID is on. I think these were ~4-4.5K, box didn't say. I am going to order the folowing:

http://superlumination.com/otherleds.htm (1/3 of the way down the page)

I'll advise how it looks/post picts.

Joe

Guys,

I can sell you white side emitting light adhesive LED's (flex strip gel type) that are 2mm thick and about 23.5 inches long (possible to cut as per needed) for $60/pair. Here fixed on my Legacy GT, it is so slim it is mounted inbetween the headlight and the bumper Audi style. On my turbo I will mount it on the underside of one of the vent slats and it will be next to invisible when switched off.

Cheers J.

Joe

The 6K H11 went well with the HID low beam. The LED parking light was H6W BAX9s 64132 5 SMT Led Cool White and the temp was close to 6K, and a good match for the DRL LEDs. The H6W BAX9s LED parking light pitched a lot of blue off the 6K H11 high beam. Overall, it's not all a perfect match, but way better than stock. I am ordering the 8K H3 for the Fog Light. The 6K bulb was not white enough. I'll advise when I get the 8K bulb in as to which one was the best.
