For those that run spacers in the front - any vibration?

Hey everyone,

I installed 10mm spacers in the front and although the car looks great, I get a pretty serious wheel vibration between 50 mph and 80 mph. Is anyone experiencing the same thing? I have a set of 7mm spacers that I'll try to put on but I'm afraid I'm going to have to go spacerless if I can't get this fixed.

Edwin,
I had this same exact problem with a set of 7mm spacers I attempted to use on the front of my old n/a 996. My guess is that your 10mm spacers are not hubcentric, correct? If they are not, what is probably happening is that there is not enough hub sticking out with the spacers on the hub for the wheel to center itself on the hub (although it well be close to centered, if it is off by any minute amount at all, you will get a vicious wobble).

Here is what you can do to try to eliminate the wobble. With the wheel off the ground try to tighten the lug bolts as much as possible (get a helper to hold the wheel while you torque the bolts, if necessary). Torque each bolt a little at a time, and proceed in a star pattern, until the bolts are as tight as you can get them. Then, when you lower the wheel back onto the ground, hopefully you will have torqued the bolts enough so that the wheel won't shift on the hub when the weight of the car is on the wheel/tire. If you are unable to get the bolts super tight with the wheel completely off the ground, try lowering the wheel just enough so that it won't spin when you torque with a fair amount of force.

I've heard that some people have had luck eliminating vibrations by using this torquing method. I actually sold my spacers before I had a chance to try this. Let me know if it works, and good luck. Scott.

I have HR 15mm in the rears and 7mm in fronts without any issues. The car feels solid at all speeds.

Same thing here. H&R 15mm spacers on all wheels (the type that used longer bolts) and no vibration.

H&R spacers have their own hub centric lip that keeps the wheel in it's proper place.

Edwin, are you using longer bolts since you have introduced the spacers?
Are the bolts appropriate for the wheel? Some wheels want the ball seats (like OEM), others want conical seat bolts. You might have an issue causing the imbalence/centralizing due to the bolts.

I have 5mm spacers and 7mm rearand no vibration problems - might be worth checking wheel balance and tyre pressures.
