Need help with suspension upgrade: JIC vs PSS10 vs H&R Coilovers?

Hi,

I want to upgrade the suspension on my 996 Turbo. I'm wondering how the JIC Cross, PSS10/9 and H&R Coilovers compare to stock? I heard the JIC's are significantly stiffer (compared to stock) - especially the 8kg/mm 12kg/mm spring setup. I'm probably going to be using it mostly on the street and maybe a few track sessions. I also want the ride height to be set so I can have it stock on the street and not rub curbs all the time. I don't want a setup that you have to trailer the 911 to get it to the track.

Can you guys give me some feedback on your setups?

Thanks,
Paul

I just put on the JIC Cross and really like them. You can make them stiff as a board or fairly soft. They are not as soft as stock but very tolerable. Also, you don't have to lower the Cross as low as you do with the PSS10's.

None of the above will be too much for street use. The JIC from what I was told is a little better if you are going to see some track time because of the extra adj. available. The pss10s from my understanding are a great coilover for a DD and occasional track day. I just ordered some pss10s from Dan at Vivid so i will let you know shortly.

Thanks shaunt. Please let me know what you think of the JIC and which springs you got (7/11 kg/mm or 8/12).

I have the JIC with the 8/12 springs and have had them for 9 months or so. I removed a set of H&R lowering springs and what an amazing difference. I have the settings one click from full stiff on the rear, and 4 from full stiff on the front.
I got a killer alignment from Vivid off of this site and it corners like it is on rails. It rides a lot stiffer than "stock" but does not wallow at all in the high speed corners. Couldn't be happier! Good luck with your search.

I have JIC 8/12 and HR sways, agency front and rear links....gt2 4 corner. Boom. Amazing car.

Dan set me up. PSS10's are great. KWv3's are supposed to be good. Search on threads with JIC, PSS9, suspension. There are a lot of posts on this subject.

I have the pss10...I like that you can adjust height and stiffness...H&R lowering springs lower to a set height, is my understanding. I ruled out JIC because I didn't plan to track and additional cost. I'm very happy with pss10 for the street. Whatever you get...follow it up with a good allignment.

I ran JIC on the street with 8/12 kg springs and full soft on damper settings. It was a very comfortable ride but noticeably stiffer than stock.

I've had PSS9's {almost the same as PSS10's} on my car for a year and a half. They are nice on the street and good at the track when set to the stiffest setting. You can lower the car but not recommended to go beyond 1 1/2 inches. Car looks better but doesn't scrap 90% of the time. Always have to be careful of speed bumps. JIC will allow you to lower the car more, has more settings, and allow different spring rates, which is great for the track. KW is also high quality but I don't know much about them. Are H&R coilovers even adjustable? PSS9's are a good, solid solution. I have been happy with them.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'm leaning towards the PSS9/PSS10's. Keep the comments coming though.

JIC's are overdiscussed and overated.

They are an average solution and disirable because they are cheap.
(yes I have them and after breaking my drop links and finding a solution
on my own, they are adequate for street/track and that is about the extent of it)

Talk to people who really know (guys with Cup Cars, guys who set up Cup Cars,
guys who do 25-40 track days a year). Like anything it all depends on what you want; some guys think a 996TT with a flash is a rocketship.

Good luck,

Marty

My understanding is that PSS9/10s have limited travel due to the fact that the shock body is fixed in relation to the car. The more you lower the car, the more travel you compromise.

That said, I think they are a great street solution for a street car that isn't over lowered.

Not sure about the quality or longevity of the KW or JIC, but I think you can go very low with both?
