I hardwired mine to a switched power. And then mounted a remote display on the center console (batwing trim). Would prefer it higher/in the cluster, but as soon as I hear a Ka alert if i am hauling I immediately shut it down. THEN look to see where it is.

 

I disassembled the standard momentary switch, never found a good way to convert it to constant on/off.


I decided the best option was to use the passenger side dome light switch. It is an easy disassembly (instructions on p.1149 of repair manual).

I pulled the bulb and soldered the V1 wires to the circuit board. I had to feed the wires up through the overhead panel which was partially removed per repair manual p.909.

The V1 fuse tucks nicely into the overhead panel, there is just enough room to button it all back up. A short 4" telephone wire made the installation complete and quite slick. Now the detector can be turned off with the OEM switch if so desired. It is all hidden nicely and as high as possible with a funtioning visor to boot.
