change the radiator
change the radiator
I have a new radiator for the drivers side as the one in there is leaking all over...
So I have the front bumper off and the plastic housing around it.
The little radiator on top of the main rad is that the transmission?
Can I take it off without making more work for myself? It would make things easier.
Next how do I get the radiator out. I took the 3 clips off that hold it in but it won't slid enought to pop the ends out.
And then lastly what is the eaisiest way to get the top hose off? after I pop it out or disconnect it in the wheel well?
Should I clamp both the top and bottom hose so I don't get airlock in the lines?
sorry about all the questions I just don't want to make more work for myself and I don't want to break something..
if any ones has pics they could post that would be GREAT!!
Thanks
Ryan

It is in the shop manuals. I did two of mine in my garage...PM me for details and I also have the complete shop manuals available for you to download. PM me for address.
It is easy to change them out....don't get worked up....you can knock the actual replacement out in 10 minutes, not counting bumper, etc.
Tom.

Pop the clips off, and push from the centerto the outside, it'll take a bit of force to get it loose and it may be easier if you losen the brackets up just a tad. Once you get the inside out, you should be able to pull the radiator out a bit and get to the lines.
I wish I would have read this before I left the office yesterday, I've actually got our project car on the lift with the bumper off to get the GT2 front on. For the record, putting a GT2 front on the proper way and keeping things functional, is just as big a pain as everyone on the forum says it is!

I have what I believe is a PWR aluminum aftermarket one that we've had in stock for some time (might even be a prototype). It's an all aluminum design for the center radiator, however after trying to install it on the car it lacked a few tabs / mounting points for the shrouding (wouldn't be a big deal to fab a tab or two on however, just not something I wanted to do). The stock unit seems to work just fine, if anything I would just replace with another factory piece if you need to.
There is a company that has them so cheap I thought they were full of crap. I took a shot and ordered one and sure enough, they are the real deal. Can't remember how much or company name. Search here and I'll look through my records.

Is the after-market radiator painted black like OEM or is it bare aluminum? I would like to find aftermarket unpainted.
Al the aftermarket center radiator I had was unpainted aluminum. It fits perfectly just lacks a few tabs needed for the GT2 style air vent, I could have added them on but didn't have the desire to after making custom hoses, etc for the car.
Wes,
I've replaced right and left so far and they will probably be good for awhile sinice I've installed mesh protection ahead of them. I wish there were a ready-to-go source (no welded tabs needed) in unpainted bc from what I've read and understood through the years the heat exchange is better without the black paint.
P.S. Still no word about the db meter at Roebling.
