XM radio antenna placement

Gang:

My antenna is placed on my dash and only gets So So reception. I cant place it on the rear deck as I have metallic tint.

Anyone mount it on the back window outside? If so HOW did they route it.

Thanks for the info.

Put it under the black plastic cowl where the hood meets the windshield. Satellite signals will penetrate the plastic cowl and you wont have to worry about the signal being blocked by window film/tint.

The instructions say to put it on metal. Why?

A few ideas for you:

Currently, I am running mine in the back of the car, just beneath the window on the carpet (Obviously inside the car). Works great.

In my Boxster (which would apply to the Carrera as well), I had it installed next to the battery in the battery compartment. This also worked amazingly well. I only had problems in my garage.

I really wanted a solution where it wasn't visible...looks like a big black moll, kinda ugly.

PS my windows have 35% tint...no issues with reception.

Not sure why XM instructions would vary, but my XM Commander instructions clearly stated NOT to put the antenna inside, as reception would be affected.

I know a couple pro installers who mount the antenna where I previously mentioned (under the plastic cowl).

Do you guys have that mondo-huge antenna or the new keyfob-sized one?

I currently have the mondo huge one. That things is so ugly and big. The new tiny ones are a definite improvement.
