Need advice-- 500 hp vs 600 hp?
I've driven several stock 996tt before. When I bought my car it had a flash, dv and a V flow intake. I drove it that way for about a month then started acquiring parts for my K24/18g. There is a huge difference in the power between the flash and the 18g. Although the drivability is actually better now than when I bought it but, I belive, that's tune dependent. I have a ATS triple carbon clutch with a sachs throw out and a lwfw. It does take a little getting use to but it only makes noise when I push in the clutch. My g/f doesn't complain and I had to point out the noise to her. It could be used as a dd, IMO. For what it's worth, I'm already thinking about more power lol. As someone said, if you do it in steps, it will probably be more expensive. Although you may find that you're content with the hp of a flash. It all comes down to what you want.
I went directly to 600+ hp with ECU, k16 hybrids, dv's, plugs, and fuel regulator from Tony at EPL and 60mm Exhaust from John at Speedtech. Sounds and runs fantastic!!! You will not be sorry!!
Just save your money and go for the k24/18g Protomotive, it will be cheaper in the long run. Im runing 650 hp and finally happy with the results. I would of save alot of money to just bear down and go for it instead of little upgrades at a time. Once you are happy with the hp's you want say enough is enough and take up golf
Thanks guys, all the responses were very helpful. I'm going to sleep on it... but I'm leaning toward spending the extra dough up front and getting the 600 hp package rather than getting the 500 and always wondering what 600 would feel like.... GBG
+1 I'd like to know too.
Also, how does the driveability change with bigger turbo kits if you drive the car daily?
I come from a V8 crowd and these cars when heavily modified usually start to be unreliable and hard to drive/very tireing in traffic. How does the turbo stack up?
The TT has a great advantage over every other sport car...Almost unlimited modification potential...You start with 420hp...are you used to?flash it,put an exhaust and drop a filter and you re up to 500hp...what a torque!!but...hm...as the revs go up...something is missing...power...more power...so,time for turbos...bolt on k24/18g...lets put some injectors for more potential and safety...some DVs and a Greddy...1,3bar!!!oh Lord...Now we are talking...pedal to the metal with fifth...what was that?Sh**... I need a clutch...since the tranny is out...LWFW?Why not...lets change the intercoolers now to achieve stable performance...and you re almost at 650...Then you will feel a lack of suspension...time for some coilovers...(of course you should have changed tires a couple of times so far)However...when Porsche installed this engine with this potential in the TT...probably left THE brakes in order to save as some money...It is the only part that almost nobody modify...Even at 650...they are awesome...
As a conclusion...This car is freaking awesome...It is not possible for a spirit driver to get bored of it...After changing many sport cars in many years it is the first time i do not want to get ovet it,to get to something better...And that is the main disadvantage of the TT...(with the exception of the 997TT)You loose the need to get a better car...after that...no need to buy something else...
