Going to 700HP! Need a little advice:)

Based on the description below, what else would you recomend I purchase?

The base car: 2003 x-50 9K miles
  • Current mods: Protomotive ECU Tune, EVOMS gt-28, EVOMS Airbox, Hitachi MAF, Billet DV's, KW V-3, 6 piston 380 Brembos
  • Coming Go Fast Mods from Protomotive: 60lb injectors, Greddy Profec boost adjuster, Tial H20 Turbo cooling kit, Protomotive Intake Piping
  • I am looking to get the car to 700HP. I want this to be a reliable weekend driver. I have NO track or drag-race aspirations. I'll only do doing some freeway pulls and 2nd/3rd gear pulls around town here and there. I never launch hard in 1st gear.
  • Do I need beefier internals: Rods, etc...?
I will also purchase a lightweight clutch/flywheel and maybe upgrade the intercoolers at a later time.

Any tips from those of you that have taken a similar route is most appreciated

Thanks!!!

Do you want 700 to the wheels? You should already be at 700 at the crank with those mods.

I have a 2005 TSCab with EVOMS' GT700 kit with EVOMSit, HMAF, EVOMS IC's, Sachs/EVOMS level 3 clutch, Milltek exhaust, and this is my summer DD car (at least to work). However, I come home from work in the PM, then hop into my 993TT, upgraded to 600++HP Protosport 3.8L, twin-plug, GT2871R's, for more excitement. I would say that the EVOMS 996 GT700 is the more refined-shall I say, boring-car compared to the tuned 993TT. Indeed, after I finish with stage 2 of my 993TT tune (down at Protosport now to get it over 700HP), later this year I plan to send them my 996 to move up to 800HP.

So the 996 with 700HP is almost docile and a great DD.

I would say the clutch and intercoolers are must at that level.

You also need an external and bigger internal fuel pump. You need between 1.3-1.4 bar to hit the 700 mark. That means race fuel no lower than 104 octane. At 1.0 bar you'll probably be around 600 bhp.

You must do the clutch and intercoolers . A stock clutch will not hold 700 HP very long. The transition to a stage three clutch takes some adjusting but I found that after 4K miles the thing which made all the difference was the GT2 conversion . It takes away the power assist and one can feel the engagement point much easier . The effort to press the pedal is greater but I don't mind one bit . I really disliked the stock clutch from day one . I preferrred my 997S clutch above it .

The intercoolers are another important option .

I found that the Tubi race exhaust has what i feel is the best sound I have heard on the car AND without cats the peformance gain is very noticeable. I almost wonder if my car is above 700 with the updated software and catless exhaust .

Daily drivability -- The car is quite civilized and whether its driven slow or fast is really up to the driver . But that would be the case with ANY car .

Lastly -- I suggest that you go over the full setup with your tuner. If you omit the clutch and intercoolers until later and wonder about street driving I feel that yoir specific system ought to have these questions answered .

Whether its on the track or the street --700 Hp is a lot and safety must be the top priority .
I recommend that you don't drive it anywhere until evey question you have is answered .

Good luck.

For you SoCal power junkies, are any of you running 91 octane on a 700 kit? Thoughts, experiences? I could ask for a race fuel file as well if I needed it....

Smile

Suggestion: I say, order a second set of all the parts and then ship them to me so I can do the upgrade to my car. Let us know how you enjoy it at 700 HP.
