Gas Gauge Accuracy

Gas Gauge Accuracy
I have a 2002 911 Turbo. According to the owner's manual the gas tank can hold roughly 16.5 US gallons, but the gas gauge slows close to empty with only about 200 miles on a tank. When I fill up the tank it only takes about 10.5 to 11 gallons. Is the gas gauge off that much? If I average around 19 miles/gallon I should get at least 285 miles easily on a tank of gas. Anyone else have this problem?

FWIW
I had a fuel pump failure last year. After replacing the fuel pump, the technician needed to recalibrate the fuel sender and fuel gauge so that it reads correctly. The procedure is to start with an empty tank, add a specified amount, calibrate, add another specified amount and calibrate again. There maybe 3 steps to the calibration process. My mechanic was unable to get the service tool to calibrate correctly. Now when my computer reads --- miles to empty, I still have about 2.5 gallons left. I'm going to schedule my next service on a day that the Porsche service rep is available to assist.
Cheers,

Too wild. The same thing happened to me just yesterday. I got the low fuel warning light and corresponding warning messages, the gauge read fumes. When I went to fill it up, it only took 10 gallons. WTF?

Computer says I get 16.2 MPG overall. I get just around 220 miles before my reserve light comes on. This sounds relatively accurate if we have 16.5 gal tanks.
FYI on the track using 91 octane I get around 5-6mpg.
Those of you who get mileage lower than 16 mpg should consider how hard you're driving before complaing that your car is wasting gas.

If you fill up right after getting the fuel low light, you should put in about 13 gal to fill up, depending on the altitude and temperature.
