Exhaust Dilemma... help me get off this 50/50 wall!

Let me say first that the subject of exhausts can be very subjective, so I'm definitely not here to argue better or worse... only looking for opinions that can get me off the 50/50 wall that I've been sitting on for the past couple months. Now, on to my "dilemma..."

My Turbo has a pair of badazz turbos coming in. Given 600+ crank hp, do I keep my Techart Race 60mm or upgrade to Fabspeed Loud.

I've literally been 50/50 about this decision for months, and it's coming down to decision time.

Out of the exhausts I've heard, the Techart Race is my favorite by a huge margin. Ultra tight staccato pulses. Deep and throaty. Refined yet aggressive. No resonance. I would not change a thing about the exhaust music. The only "con" would obviously be that the Fabspeed makes more power.

The Fabspeed Loud is the king of power. I wouldn't be surprised if it pulls the usual 10~20rwhp over other exhausts. The exhaust tone is very raw, racy, and built to flow; it's not really tuned for sound (not that it needs to make apologies). Heck, it sounds like a race car. The exhaust shootout speaks for itself. It's obvious when comparing Fabspeed to others that its advantage lies in its straight-through design. Almost all other exhausts make a u-turn in the muffler, which really kills the momentum and speed of exhaust flow. The only Con is that to my ears, the exhaust sounds unrefined.

So... what would you guys do...
- ultimate sound track while potentially giving up ~20rwhp?
- ultimate power while giving up refinement?

I'll be the first to claim that given 600+hp, the average person couldn't tell a difference of ~20rwhp. However, sometimes knowing is enough.

On the other hand, the Techart is what I think a Porsche should sound like, just like a F355 Tubi is what I think a Ferrari should sound like. Do I give that up for 20rwhp and a raw-sounding exhaust?

I rarely ask subjective questions, as that's the point... it's subjective. However, I simply need help... and perhaps your opinions/views will help me put this exhaustive cow of a decision to pasture! Kudos to both awesome exhausts for very different reasons... but enough already, which way do I go!

Thanks!

I think you hit the nail on the head my friend when you said "subjective". Will you feel an extra 20RWHP on a car thathas around 600RWHP? I honestly doubt it... Will it be slightly slower with the Tech Art in a 1/4mile run or around the track? Probably by a margin.... I like the Fabspeed Loud a lot because it makes power and is light. If you like the sound of your exhaust already then stay with it. Why risk that for a few more HP? I'm one of these people that wants all out power and so my ears suffer as a result but I'm not fussed

You can always get the TechArt Race 70mm with 100 cell cats... it is designed for 600hp+ applications.

I considered that exhaust as well... with the mandatory Techart exhaust tips, cost is just shy of $6k (retail is over $6k for both). Have you (or anyone) had the opportunity to hear it in person?

What exhaust are you going with?

I've wanted the TechArt racing 70mm, but Lucent is having difficulty getting them from CEC.

But it appears that I will probably go with an exhaust that comes as a complete tuning package from one of Germany's prominent race tuners.

I haven't decided yet. Rather than piecemeal my car, I am trying to go with a completely integrated package like the Ruf R Turbo system.

Ruf is so last year man..

Seriously though, what about Manthey? I mean that'd be a pretty interesting direction too...

I've corresponded with Manthey Racing also... you know me, I follow all those obscure race tuners that few people in the US keep track of....

The company that I have in mind (which I cannot disclose at this time) has worked with Manthey as well.

Ah good on ya... It'd be neat to see....

The only ones I know of in Europe at PSI, TTP and then the usual ones....

One thing about the Europeans, other than the fact that they run away from Wars (except my Beloved England) is they know their **** when it comes to Porsches...

You have a badass car and it sould sould like one. I would go with the fabspeed loud, and make that car sound like it should.

If in doubt go with the quieter one. Loud mufflers tend to get tiresome, especially on a daily driver. It's also nice to be able to drive quickly without attracting the cops attention.

Stephen,

If I were you, I would dyno test the techart exhaust vs your cargraphic, vs the fabspeed. We can use my car as well if you like. The Cargraphic wasn't in the exhaust shootout and gains are similar to the fabspeed albeit with much much better sound imo. Again subjective but, I would either get the techart with 70mm tubing or stick with cargraphic, you will not see a difference in hp between that and the fabspeed and I think we should test it to prove it!

Having spent a good amount of time with Fabspeed Loud and Quiet, I actually have no problem with it's loudness or whatever resonnance that exists. Those two factors are perfectly fine for me.

It's more the texture and tone of the sound that I find less appealing for a street driven GT that should carry an aire of sophistication.

Perhaps Tyson/Lou is right... I should look into a 70mm Techart. I just hate paying for a huge marke-up, 'cause I know Techart marks all their stuff way high. Just look at Techart's short shift kit, which is essentially a rebadged B&M... rediculous. Doesn't help that CEC has a general monopoly on Techart stuff (so I've been told, but don't know for a fact).

unless you are racing competitively for money, the difference is probably too negligible to be concerned with. you will be listening to your exhaust everywhere you go. so will everyone else. I personally wouldn't sacrifice that huge rush of emotion and head turning for 20rwhp.... 600hp is pretty damn nice to begin with
