Which exhausts are worth considering?

As I'm looking at used 996TT's, I'm finding some have exhausts on them already.

First off, how important is an exhaust upgrade? Is it all for sound, or does the stock one limit the car's power potential? Ultimately I am thinking I'll limit my mods to x50(k24) car with software and suspension. Is an exhaust a required upgrade for a flashed k24?

If I do decide to get one, or buy a car with one, which ones are most popular / worth considering? I don't want to increase interior noise on this car, but I don't mind a bit of a more aggressive note outside. Both of my current cars have aftermarket exhausts and I'm okay with those, but I've been in cars that are annoying for passengers to ride in and I want to avoid that.

If there are any specific ones to avoid, that would be helpful as well.

Thanks,
Mark

Yes i would deff do an exhaust with a flash , and no its not all for sound, i would look for something with sport 100 cell cats and maybe 2.5 in , i wouldnt go to big on the diameter of the exhuast cuase it will be loud . personaly i havea full 3 in with no cats and burns race mufflers, and it not to loud for me .

RUF makes a nice free flowing 100 cel cat exhaust that wont bother you inside the cabin.

Speedtech crossover, gmg, UMW, europipe, switzer are my top tier choices. I have a switzer. Search youtube for "jcbmemphis" to find my sound clips. I did get more power, btw...but you can't hear the power on youtube.

Others people love are AWE, Fabspeed, Agency Power, FVD.

Ruf is nice, but it is really an OEM cored out with custom cats.

Good luck!

To start, check out the TWJ mod.... search under modified oem exhaust.

Europipe.

When I sold my car, I put the exhaust back to stock and man, what a difference it made. The car had slow throttle response and lagged in acceleration. Also, hearing the turbo spool is a nice sound to hear.

Kreis-sieg - it sounds great when cat is engaged and with a quick push of the button, straight pipes and another 20+ hp (by the feel).

Exhaust is such a personal thing (as far as sound goes)...you definitely want to go aftermarket with a flash. I have EP and prefer it to any other I have heard....but I'm not into too loud.

Hey Mark,
If you are keeping your cats then I would suggest Europipe or Milteck. Those two are probably on the more mild side of what you are going to find.
