if I want a car with turbo lag, for the experience and fun factor

is a 996 TT a good choice?

I like the sensation of turbo lag, while it may be decried far and wide by people worried about lap times and such, in my opinon its hard to deny that the sensation of turbo's coming on line adds a GREAT deal of fun to the driving experience.

An LS7s instant gratification factor is awesome. But the feeling of my coworkers 3-series turbo coming online is also fun. Frustrating when you floor it and get nothing, fun when it hits.

I've never driven a 996TT (drove a 997TT and i loved it, gotta have one of those some day)... is lag and the subsequent rush of turbos coming on power something a guy can get out of the 996TT?

Stock turbo's have barely any lag, when you are in the right gear

Personally, I find the lag somewhat frustrating. When I hop from my E55 to my TT, I feel like I've taken a HUGE step backwards in performance.

Still love the 996 though

THe lag is definately noticeable. If you are just cruising normally and are in the 2k rpm range, you have to wait a good bit until the turbo's come on. Then you'll be in full boost by mid 3K rpm (GT28 turbo's which are supposed to have minimal lag). If you are driving hard and keeping the rev's up and are constantly building boost, you will hardly notice any lag.

Funny, most folks try to do what ever they can to reduce lag. You want lag...get a 930 with K27 turbo...like an on-off switch.

That sounds like alot of fun to me, and the prices on 996TTs are pretty good right now... when the snow melts I'll have to schedule a drive.

cool. I do understand the desire to reduce lag, but my love for cars is driven in part by how different they all are, and the sensation of lag is something I've never had in a car I owned.

930 = super good looking

Yes, a supra with a large single will certainly get you what you want.

My previuos 964 3.3 turbo and 930 turbo are really lag-ful, to the extend that, in the wrong gear, they were turtles.

I owned a 965 K27 turbo and it was very scary and very difficult to drive fast. It was definitley a On/Off switch!

I have found there is a device behind the radio but forward of the center console that is most useful in reducing lag.

Agreed on the Supra w/huge single...

I have a GT700 pack on the car and I don't notice much lag at all...just scary amounts of speed when I'm anywhere past 1/2 throttle
