PeterK is infamous around these parts
You have to seal it with a clearcoat design for plastics to get lasting results.

I don't believe that they come factory sealed with clear coat. I'd also be a little afraid of the clearcoat yellowing and peeling after some time, where with plastic it's just a matter of polishing it up again.

Everything oxidizes, the case with headlights is just the same as with polished wheels.

I think all plastic headlights come with a protective coating from the factory. I believe that this coating contains UV absorption agents which prevent UV interacting with plastic and thus yellowing it.

Best thing to do is to sand em n polish em to perfection- then add 3M film overtop

I did this to my BMW headlights (they were in very very rough shape) and they came out brand new. Have had 3M on for 6 months now and they're still perfect.

Looking for any other ideas on cleaning and maintaining my now-yellowing, dull headlights. I bought some non-3M film from http://www.clearmask.com/. I also got Plexus from Amazon to do an initial clean. Anyone recommend any other techniques or a wet-sand or polish kit?

I just picked up my headlights from my friends body shop. He wet sanded, polished, buffed, clear coated them twice and polished again. They look like new.

Mine have a lot of micro cracks or "crazing". A local detailed worked on them for an hour and they improved, but far from perfect. She's starting to show her age- but performed brilliantly through the mountains yesterday!

knowing how bad these headlights get - a detailing shop simply wont do it. gotta take it to a body shop and have them properly done and then clear coated so that the fading/yellowing doesnt come back for longer.
